Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice, unmolested 1973 Volkswagen Thing. I bought this thing in September of 2004 and have no complaints. It has never let me down or stranded me on the side of the road. The car is an original southern car with a very solid body. All the floor pans are original with no areas of rust through. Even the area under the battery is solid. The underside of the pan has surface rust and should probably be wire brushed and coated with a good rust preventative paint such as POR15 or one of the paints offered by the Eastwood company. If the winning bidder likes, I will perform this service for $300 plus the cost of the paint. It is an easy fix. The engine runs beautifully with no smoke or oil usage. Starts right up with no weird noises. The transmission shifts as it should with no grinding or clunking. The car tracks straight down the road and brakes as it should. The gas gauge works as well as the wipers and the alternator, oil pressure and brake, idiot lights. The emergency brake works fine but could use an adjustment. The convertible top in in excellent condition with the exception of one small hole about the size of a quarter (see picture). The rear plastic window is nice but has a wear line through the middle from being folded. The wheels could use a paint job. Whom ever painted them previously did not prep them properly. The following items were replaced within the last 200 miles: 1. Clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing as well as the trans main shaft seal 2. New shocks on all 4 corners 3. Tune up, points, plugs, condensor, distributor cap 4. New brake hoses at all 4 corners 5. New rear seat cushion The following new items will be included in the sale: 1. New seat covers from The Thing Shop for the front seats as well as the back rests in the rear. Also included are new foams and padding. 2. A complete set of new side curtains as received from The Thing Shop. 3. A new storage bag for two side curtains. An original bag is under the bonnet. I guess thats about it. I'm probably forgetting something so feel free to ask questions or come and look at the car if you can. A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction close, with the balance to be paid within 7 days. The car must be picked up within 7 days unless other arrangements are made. If the car is sold with the "buy it now" option, a Porsche 5 speed transmission will be included in the sale. Thanks for your interest in the auction
