As the super car insanity screamed toward its zenith in 1970, insurance companies increasingly took a dim view of the big cube powerhouses rolling out of Detroit. Because of this, the market swelled briefly with smaller engine versions of high dollar GTOs, Chevelles and Mopar intermediates. Oldsmobile's answer was simply to install a fierce 350/4-barrel into an air inducted 4-4-2. It was, in fact a 4-4-2, from its rear wing right down to its boxed lower control arms To make sure nobody missed it, unique graphics and body colored bumpers were added that set this new Rallye 350 apart from the crowd and make it today, a uniquely rare collectable classic. While 22,877 4-4-2s poured off assembly lines in 1970, just 2,367 Rallye 350 Oldsmobiles were built at the Lansing assembly plant. Among the small surviving number, very few are in the spectacular condition found in every aspect of this fully restored classic. The blistering performance and dead reliability of the numbers matching Oldsmobile suggests a total rebuild that included a power-matched, JET modified Streetnaster Quadrajet, coated Dynomax long tube headers and a fat Magnaflow exhaust system with crossover. Firm shifts are courtesy a built Turbo-Hydramatic 350 transmission that puts it on the ground through a 3.23 rear axle. New steering and suspension systems with optional power front disc brakes joins this superb drive train to provide a new car driving experience you simply will not believe until you're actually behind the wheel. All Rallye 350 equipped Olds came with the sport steering wheel and a luxurious interior but this particular car kicks it up several notches with Strato bucket seats, center console with floor shifter, rally gauges (including a working tachometer) air conditioning (not working) remote locking hood and even a rare forced air rear defrost. The original AM radio sits quietly in the dash while powerful new audio comes from a Sony Drive-S sound system, cleverly stashed in the locking glove box. Don't worry; you still have secure storage in the center console. Power steering and power front disc brakes make driving a breeze and a look under the hood or underneath the car will close the deal without further discussion because this beauty is not merely skin deep. It all comes together in a high quality vintage car value that will be hard to pass up and certainly, demand for this extremely rare, numbers matching Rallye 350 will be fierce and end quickly with a lucky winner smart enough not to hesitate. Body colored urethane bumpers predated the modern monochromatic look by several decades. With just 2,367 of these produced, the value of a Rallye 350 can only go up - especially cars at this condition level. You won't soon find another Rallye 350 with a body like this. Oldsmobile's near fastback interpretation of GM's A-body design was sleek and beautiful. Completely restored, everything is original in great condition or brand new. Stance can be altered by adding air to the "Superlift" rear shocks.
