Vehicle Detail
This is an exclusive PROJECT CAR for all the Z club enthusiast. This car was purchased used in 1978 and driven by my brother back and forth to college. This is a very fast, stable performing vehicle. We started having carburetor problems in about 1981. Our dad purchased my brother another car so we kept this one in storage for many years. We did not want to sell it at the time. My brother had plans to restore it at some point. Well, that never happened. As far as we know, the engine is still very good. Also, the transmission is very good. The car obviously needs a great deal of work cosmetically. Every part on the car made of rubber will need replacing. Also, the exterior will need to be sand blasted and painted. The interior will also need some restoring. There are no dents in the car. The glass is all in good shape. Everyone is asking about rust on the car. I understand the importance of rust and the damage it can do to the frame. This car has been sitting in the elements for the last 3 years. It does have some rust around the doors and under the hood. It is what I would consider normal rust. It is not that bad based on what can be seen without stripping the car down to the frame. I would never mislead anyone. I am being very honest. I am not a car person. I just drive them. I am fairly sure this car can be restored without having to replace any body parts. Mechanically, the car will need a new battery, new belts, new hoses, and carburetor work. The car has two carburetors. That much is a known fact. Everything else should be okay mechanically. Thanks for looking. The 260Z history: The engine was enlarged with a longer stroke to 2.6 L for the 260Z in 1974. A 2+2 seating option added with an extra 11.9 in (302 mm) of wheelbase. This engine was sold in the United States for the 1974 model year only, but was available in other countries until 1979. In the US, federal emissions regulations forced a reduction in ignition timing and compression ratio, resulting in a lower power output (140 hp) for the first half of the 260Z's destined for the US, despite the additional displacement, whereas in other countries the power output actually increased to 165 bhp (123 kW; 167 PS). A 3-speed automatic transmission was an option to the standard 4-speed manual. There were two models of the 260Z sold in the U.S. The first half had lower power due to Emissions regulations. A more powerful version was available during the second half of production destined to the U.S. market. Some regard the first half of 260Z's as the least desirable of the two models, because of the reduced performance. This has resulted in lower prices on average for the early model 260Z. The 260Z also claimed a few improvements over the 240Z. The climate controls were more sensibly laid out and easier to work. There was additional stiffness in the chassis due to a redesign of the chassis rails which were larger and extended further back than in the 240Z. The American model also featured heavier, safer, impact-absorbing bumpers. Cosmetic changes included a redesigned dashboard and console, seat trim, and door panels for the interior, as well as redesigned rear tail lights and the front blinkers were relocated to inside the grill. On Oct-24-10 at 14:16:43 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Just had a very nice potential buyer stop by and look over the car. He is a very experienced PROJECT CAR buyer and seller. He said the car is in very good shape considering the age and circumstances. He stated the floor boards were in good shape and would not need replacing. He said there is hardly no rust around the battery. Also, he said the frame rails are in good shape. Bottom line, the car does have some rust. However, the car will be easily restored without having to redo the entire frame because of rust. He stated there may be a few spots that needed some bondo. Thanks. Gregory
