Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1995 Ford F-150 Supercab XLT Lariat 4x4 in Electric Red Pretty, ain't she? 5.0 L (302ci) V-84-speed automatic with overdriveExtended cabFactory side stepsFactory alloy wheels3.55 rear endtowing packagefully loaded! This is a used pickup truck, and like anything else, it has its good, its bad, and its ugly: The Good: We bought this truck new, off the showroom floor, on February 14, 1995 and have owned it since. It is in good shape, has never seen snow, and has been largely garage kept its whole life. We have all the service records, from the original window sticker onward, and the oil has been changed every 3-5K miles, in the later years with Mobil-1 synthetic. It is largely in original condition. There are no dents or dings on the body other than the small dent in the tail gate above the license plate (see photo). It is very "straight" and rust-free. Yes, I wash my engines. Sorry. Summary of the oil change history. I have receipts for all the times the oil was changed by a mechanic or Jiffy Lube, as well as service records, manuals, etc. which fill a 3" 3-ring binder, all in plastic page protectors. The oil was changed last fall, about 2,000 miles ago. Like I said, I don't drive this much anymore! I changed the transmission fluid regularly, about every 30-40K miles, and the differentials, tranny, and transfer case were all changed at about 110,000 miles. The radiator has been flushed regularly, as have the brakes. The bed has been lined with Herculiner and there is a roll-top cover (about six years old) on the back. Note the plastic bed rail protectors (right one is cracked as shown) and tailgate protector, which tends to warp in the sun slightly. The truck has a class III load receiver hitch and is pre-wired for a brake controller in the cab. Note dual stainless-steel exhaust tips, which connect to a flowmaster muffler - NOT LOUD! It just burbles nicely. There is a small dent in the tailgate. I did this 2 years ago, when hooking up the boat trailer. 13 years without a scratch and then I go and do that. It just kills ya! The original tape deck died many years ago and was replaced with a SONY AM/FM CD player with remote control. The truck is fully loaded (for its day) with power locks, windows, cruise control, A/C, tilt wheel, etc. The interior is in good shape, with no rips or tears in the seat. The headliner is intact (not falling down!) and has one small burn hole in it. It is not showroom pefect, but neither is it ratted out. The interior features a full front bench seat that seats three people. Actually, it is two bucket seats with a folding center seat that has a center console in it. So it can seat six people (3 in the front, 3 in the back). The upholstery is the Ford "mouse fur" material. Wears well. The Alternator and battery were replaced at about 110,000 miles. Other than that, and the cooling system overhaul, it is pretty original. The Throttle Position switch was changed, and the plugs changed a few years back, with Ford "racing" wires installed along with a new cap and rotor. It is on its third starter motor. Fortunately, they are easy to change and are cheap enough (the last one was $35). It always starts right up and runs great, except as detailed below. It has been a very reliable truck for me. Everything works - both front and rear gas tanks (no rusted out, no broken fuel pumps) the door locks, the A/C (see below), etc. There is a CB radio in it that needs an antenna to work - or something. The Bad: It is in original condition. That means the suspension is pretty much original, except for Bilstein Shocks. Original ball joints, tie rods, springs, etc. It drives straight, but does wander a bit - not much, but it is not like a new car. I had it aligned at 100,000 miles for the first time, and it was straight as an arrow! We replaced the radiator, water pump, alternator, and fuel filter at about 110,000 miles along with one U-joint. The original self-locking hubs were replaced with manual WARN hubs about 10 years ago. It has a flowmaster exhaust and stainless steel dual tips. It has a power chip on the engine controller. Other than that, no "mods" and little has had to be fixed on it. Yes, the side step on the cab is a factory original. The vehicle has been used to tow a 6500 lb 5th wheel trailer and a 6500 lb boat and trailer. It is rated for about 8,000 lbs towing capacity. The tires are Michelin 31.5 x 10.5 15" on factory alloy rims, including the spare, which is also on a factory alloy rim (I bought a used rim and new tire a few years back). The tread is "good" but at least two may need to be replaced soon. If you wanted to drive this in the snow (just don't tell me about it, OK?) I would get at least two new tires. The brakes were done at about 110,000 miles, before I brought the truck North. That was the first time I changed the rear shoes. It might be ready for a brake job up front in the next 20K miles. I used those cross-drilled rotors the last two times around. The A/C blows ice cold, but the high pressure switch is bad and has been jumpered out. Seems to work fine, but that should probably be replaced. It also could probably use a valve adjustment, as it "ticks" a bit when cold. There are no dents and dings on the car, except for this dent in the tailgate. Ouch! The paint is in good shape, but it is 15 years old and just starting to etch - very slightly. Leave this outside for a few seasons, and it won't look as nice as in these pictures! It is straight as an arrow. Note left most panel of rear window is actually plexiglass. Note aftermarket mudflaps and factory step. This is not an "Eddie Bauer" edition, although it is similarly equipped (no two-tone paint). Note also that the tacky "4x4" stickers have been removed. Who needs to advertise? I try to wax it at least twice a year with that stuff in the orange bottle. It still turns heads! What else? That's about it. The leftmost panel of the rear window was replaced with tinted plexiglass (5th wheel incident when it was nearly brand new). I was going to buy a whole new window, but never got around to it, as you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference between that panel and the glass one on the other side. The plexiglass was cut to the exact size of the broken glass piece and installed in the frame as original. You wouldn't notice it, unless I said something. Again, that darn honesty thing! The Ugly It started overheating under heavy load occasionally about six years ago, oddly enough, after I replaced the radiator and water pump (the latter a high performance unit). I removed the thermostat and have been driving it since then with no problems (I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to get it up to temperature). Will it need a head gasket or something? I don't know. It doesn't smoke or anything. And it doesn't burn oil. I drive it only about 3,000 miles a year, in the summer, so it hardly gets used. It runs at temperature if I put a piece of cardboard in front of about 1/3 of the radiator. But if I put the thermostat back in, it overheads under heavy load.. Maybe that high performance water pump is slamming the tstat shut? Or is it ready for a head gasket? I don't know. It has run just fine this way - for the last six years! About 7 years ago, when I changed the automatic transmission filter, I found a small piece of metal (1/4") in the pan. It appeared to be part of a piece of a cage from a roller clutch. Since then, I have towed my boat from Florida to New York, without any problems. There is a minor vibration at 30 mph in third gear sometimes - I usually downshift to second, and it goes away. That was seven years and nearly 30,000 miles ago. It still runs fine. The truck starts and runs fine, so I have not bothered to address these issues. I just drove it back from Ithaca, a 40 mile round trip, doing 60 the whole way. I suppose I could lie about both these things, but I don't think that is the eBay way. Besides, it just ain't worth the hassle to piss someone off over a 15-year-old used truck. It is what it is. You want a new truck? Buy one. You want a used one? Most will have issues like this. Most folks just won't tell you about them, is all. I don't play that. Accessories: The vehicle comes with the following accessories: Weatherproof car cover with carrying bag - we used this for storage in the winter (in the garage) and for the few occasions it was left outside.Complete Service Manual Set - Ford OEM OBC Error Code ReaderSome various spare parts - spare fuel and oil filter, U-joint, etc.Towing mirrors - designed to fit this model and year truck4x4 hub removal tool - essential for repacking wheel bearings (which I have done several times)Built-in battery storage charger (for storage) from tractor supply CB Radio (needs antenna?)Fire ExtinguisherJumper cables (never used for this truck)Spare serpentine belt Service Records including original window sticker and dealer brochure!Wind deflectors on side AND rear window!Rocker panel threshold step covers * * * * * This truck was bought new in Virginia and used there for 10 years or so. For the last five years, it has been at our summer home in New York (stored winters), but is presently titled in Georgia. We have sold our summer home in New York, and are moving to Georgia full-time, so it has to go. I've had to sell two of my BMW convertibles here on eBay, as well as my antique 1941 Ford 9N tractor, and my 1941 Willys, plus two Bayliner boats! But to tell you the truth, this is the hardest one to let go of. It has been a darn good truck and a credit to the folks at Ford Motor Company. But my garage in Jekyll won't fit it, and it would be ashamed to let it sit outside, gathering dust and degrading slowly. So maybe it is time for someone else to enjoy it. It would make a great "estate" vehicle for doing light maintenance and chores. It would be ill-suited as your only car or for commuting. I have been using it to haul my boat out once a year and to haul trash to the dump and to pick up the occasional load of lumber from Lowes - about 2,000 to 3,000 miles a year. For that purpose, I think it would give you many more miles of good service. If you wanted to commute to work in it or drive it to Los Angeles, it probably would need some of the issues above addressed. I thought about putting a re-manufactured engine and tranny in it, but frankly, at 3,000 miles a year, it has run great, so why bother? And it still runs great, so I never got around to it. But it would probably go another 100,000 miles if you wanted to invest the money in that. The body is nearly perfect! More pictures are available on my facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=234704&id=566574352&l=354b64b32f Thanks for bidding and.... Have you driven a Ford lately? On Oct-11-10 at 16:06:52 PDT, seller added the following information: I am leaving for Georgia on November 5th and heading to Jekyll Island. Someone asked me about delivering in the Carolinas (see Q&A below) and I am happy do to this, but must charge for gas, which I estimate at 20 cents a mile, averaging 15 mpg. Thanks. On Oct-12-10 at 06:26:52 PDT, seller added the following information: As with all my auctions, please do not e-mail me asking to "end the auction early". On Oct-12-10 at 09:14:09 PDT, seller added the following information: Note: The vehicle has never been smoked in. On Oct-14-10 at 08:09:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the inquiries! Someone asked about the bed. The bed has no major dings or dents in it and has been coated with Herculiner. We do not do stupid things like throw cinder blocks in it. There are small bolt holes from the 5th wheel. Most have been plugged with plastic plugs Note the rubber tailgate protector mat. The bed is a bit dirty. No, that is not rust, just dirt. And no those aren't scratches, just where sheet rock rubbed on the wheel well. We do use it to go to the dump! It comes with the manuals, service record and a number of spare parts. I had an electronic tailgate lock, but it died a long time ago. I added latches to the tailgate can be locked from the inside, and if the roll top cover is locked, provides some security. It also includes a steering wheel lock club, rechargeable flashlight, a pen light, tire patch kit, umbrella, fire extinguisher, and some other miscellaneous items. It also includes towing mirrors, and this green plastic trunk to hold it all. Someone asked about the four wheel drive - yes it works fine, all ranges. Probably has not gone 100 miles in 4x4 mode its whole life. Sometimes the front end "clunks" when you turn the wheel, but I was told that is normal - just the U-joints turning. It has done it for 15 years... That's about it. It is a nice truck! On Oct-14-10 at 17:39:34 PDT, seller added the following information: FYI - we are in King Ferry NY 13081, just south of Aurora, on Cayuga Lake - not the Aurora near Buffalo NY!
