Step into the past with this exquisite 1936 Packard that has been lovingly restored to its original charm and dignity, with condition and quality worthy of the respected Packard name. This spectacular two passenger Business Coupe came out of extended storage a few years ago and is powered by its original 282 cubic inch L-head straight-eight engine that starts easily and runs quiet. The "Selective-Synchromesh" transmission and "Angle-Set" rear axle create a robust drive train that makes enjoying your "new" Packard a low stress pleasure. The car you are piloting is a very rare beauty indeed; a look underneath tells a startling story. The car spent a generation in a dark and dry storage trailer and evidence of this unique preservation is a real treat to discover. When we first put the vehicle on a lift, we found what appear to be factory rubber/fabric body mount pads; some of these have the original paper wrap still clinging after 74 years. Original wood and wiring can be seen everywhere and it all strongly suggests a car that has spent the vast majority of its life in storage. The Ford Toreador Red paint looks spectacular next to the rich metallic silver fenders and what a body this is; not a spec of rust or an ounce of body filler to be found anywhere. Inside, new velour upholstery covers everything and the dash and steering wheel are unmolested and original. Turn the key and push the black "start" button to bring the original 282 cubic inch straight-eight engine immediately to life. This gem purrs like a kitten and pulls the big Packard smartly. With a 3-speed transmission and period correct steering wheel spinner (with matching shift knob) driving this prestigious motorcar is a cinch. All exterior lights work, the gauges function as they should and many of the inconveniences vintage car owners endure to enjoy their hobby are not an issue with this superb Packard. Windows glide smoothly in their tracks and the doors open with ease and close securely. You get an enormous trunk and if you happen to have an actual real trunk, your new Packard can accommodate with an original rear trunk rack that folds up beautifully out of the way. After a few minutes behind the wheel of this rare 1936 Packard 120B Business Coupe, people will have a hard time convincing you time travel is not possible. For anyone lucky enough to be inside this exquisite beauty, it is 1936. The 120 lead the way in 1936 with two important features senior (and much more expensive) Packards did not have; independent front suspension and hydraulic brakes. With these, even 74 years later your Packard inspires confidence on today's ro The original owner took delivery of this fine Business Coupe on a cool Wednesday, February 26, 1936. Before handing the keys over, "High Street Motor Sales Muncie, Indiana" and the delivery date were scrawled onto a metal identification plate on the firewall that also carries the body type (998=Business Coupe, 2 passenger) and the vehicle serial number. (2442) Creased fenders hint at blue-blood lineage and no design element was left to chance. Example: rear window is not simply the expected oval or rectangle but a styled shape that reinforces the car's distinction. A lot of late '30s Packards are seen with a folding trunk rack but few with the condition and smooth function of this beauty. (the condition and quality of the body can be further seen here with smooth, undiminished curves and superb trunk lid fit) This fine specimen survives any and all critical observations with its claims to originality and spectacular quality, acknowledged and confirmed. (all outer body metal is original, unrepaired metal) The hood side louvers begin in bold relief with a chrome escutcheon, then flow/fade to the rear. You will see this theme repeated with sharp precision on the hood and door handles. Packard 120B production was a record 55,042 units in 1936, the highest the series would ever reach. (all functional hardware on the car - hood/trunk, doors/window glass - work flawlessly) A glamorous shape that will be easy to find in a parking lot. (beautiful paint finish and superb panel fit defines this meticulously restored survivor) New upholstery looks great, door hardware is shiny with no pitting and their function is smooth and reliable. Other than new carpet, upholstery and headliner the interior was left largely alone. (like the rest of the car, it needed very little because of extraordinary preservation) Original where possible (almost everything) new where necessary (everything that counts) and spectacular from stem to stern. This is how you want you undercarriage to look, right? (more evidence of engineering overkill: leaf springs wrapped in steel) 282 cubic inch L-head straight-eight with aluminum cylinder head and 120 horsepower. This quiet engine is a gem and was produced 2 months prior to customer delivery. Full size matching spare in a trunk big enough for two or three trunks.
