EBAY AUCTION DESCRIPTION: Up for auction is an all-original 1973 Pontiac Trans Am with its original numbers matching 455 engine, matching numbers Pontiac TH400 automatic transmission, original code-matching rear 10-bolt posi-traction axle, and original code-matching carburetor. It's also an original air-conditioned car and has 95% of its original parts, down to the nuts, bolts, hoses, clips, and wires. It comes with the PHS supporting documentation which includes a copy of the factory invoice and window sticker. This is a very lengthy auction description as I’m going to do my best to completely and fully describe the condition of the car to potential buyers across the country. Please read all of it before contacting me with any questions. VIN: 2V87Y3N127046 Engine Code: XE Engine VIN: 23N127046 Transmission Code: 73-P2Z-1439 Transmission VIN: Y3N127046 Rear Axle Code: GY Carburetor Code: 17054913 The 1970-1973 generation of Trans Ams are considered the elite years of the Trans Am line due to their rarity, the ending of the muscle car era in 73, and the attractive front end appearance. Here is an example of the same car(year/model/options/originality) and what it fetched at auction a few months ago: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=79.1&aid=304&pop=1 And this one from 1 year ago: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=334.1&aid=284&pop=1 This California car that is for sale is a unique opportunity for someone to own a solid and original vehicle. The previous owner(who was the 2nd owner) had it painted silver and then it was left in a slightly disassembled state in his southern California garage for the past 16 years before I purchased it. I was going to make a track car out of it when I purchased it but I just couldn’t bring myself to tear apart this numbers and codes matching rare Trans Am. So I decided to restore, clean, and service it and make it available to someone who wants this all-original ride. Here is a full list of the parts and services I purchased over the past 6 months to restore the car to its current condition which I’ll fully describe below: NEW PARTS LIST: http://www.69camaroproject.com/SharedImages/SharedImages/73TA/73TA_Expenses.htm I have a binder of all the receipts which will be included with the other paperwork. This Trans Am has all of its original metal(with no patch panels) with the exception of a brand new front lower valance, trunk filler panel, and trunk lid which I just installed to replace some dinged parts and clean up the exterior a bit. The silver paint and body work that was done by the previous owner long ago was a very average paint job. It looks amazing from about 10 feet but once you get up close you can see some blemishes and fading and some of the fit and finish could be better to bring it up to show quality. I was going to have it block sanded and re-shot in silver for this auction but I thought it would be best to leave it as is and let the next owner decide whether they like the silver or want to sand it back down to the original red that’s underneath and have it painted in its original red. The car has some cosmetic body work(filler) along the very lower edge of the rear quarters and the lower edge of the passenger side fender behind the front tire. There is one other area behind the rear window where the lower edge(not the sides or top) of the rear glass meets the trunk filler panel(a typical area of rust on these cars) and under the right trunk hinge. This area and the passenger fender area will need some attention with some sections of metal replaced to repair it properly. There is some minor pitting in the center of the trunk pan which could either be cleaned and filled or cut out and replaced. Other than those few areas mentioned, the remainder of the car is in excellent condition. Photos speak the truth so I have provided a link to extra photos of the car’s body so you can see more for yourself how amazingly clean and rust free this original car is. The undercarriage looks great thanks to it living in the dry southern California air most of its life. It’s just a bit dirty underneath on the undercarriage and subframe and parts of the engine and transmission. Scrubbing the undercarriage down with some degreaser and cleaner quickly reveals the original redish-orange undercarriage paint and you can see in the extra photos(see link below) how clean the undercarriage could be with a little time and effort. It has its original rear chrome bumper which has no dings or rust which is exceptionally rare. It will most likely need rechroming to bring it up to show quality. The front endura bumper has the typical paint cracks due to poor paint preparation and aging on this flexible surface, but is in great shape. If you have any other questions about the body feel free to ask. LARGER AND ADDITIONAL PHOTOS: http://www.69camaroproject.com/SharedImages/SharedImages/73TA/73TA_Images.htm The car has all of its original exterior metal trim pieces with the exception of the passenger side bullet mirror. Some of the shiny stuff will need refurbishing, repolishing, or rechroming, but they are all there and they are all the original pieces which is rare. The 73 TA has exterior front end pieces unique to the 1973 year only so having the originals is a real plus because these pieces are very hard to find. When I purchased it, the rear window molding was missing but I found some excellent and pricey original GM pieces(difficult to find) and installed them. The rear glass had a crack in it so I also replaced that. The other glass is in average condition for 37 year old glass with some minor scratches and scuffs here and there. All of the door and window seals and felts and rubber trim and rubber bumpers throughout the car are brand new. The interior is in great condition and is nearly complete. This is one of the few 73 TA’s that came with the standard interior which applies to the seat covers and upper door panels(as noted in the window sticker). The carpet, headliner, sill plates, and rear shelf are brand new which I had replaced. I actually took pictures of the floor pans and roof panel before the installation of the headliner and carpet so you could see for yourself how great of a condition they are in with their original factory paint(which you typically don’t get to see before purchasing a car). The original dash is excellent condition and it's never been cut or altered in the stereo area which is very rare, although the original AM radio is missing(can be found on Ebay). The A/C system is not functioning and will need service. The grip material on the original steering wheel was falling apart so I replaced the steering wheel with a GM original that’s in good shape. I will include the original steering wheel with the car. Some of the other miscellaneous interior pieces were missing or worn so I went ahead and replaced them. Overall, the interior is mostly all there and smells and looks mostly like new. The Rally II wheels look like they were recently restored and look great. I purchased some brand new BF Goodrich Radial TA’s and new polished stainless trim rings for them. The engine and everything in the engine compartment is original and present. It’s really quite amazing when you look at it and see that nearly all of the original parts are still there, including things like original hose clamps and original ribbed GM hoses, etc. I cleaned up and refinished many of the parts in the engine bay, however the engine block, intake manifold and heads still have their original slate blue paint on them and could use some refinishing. The original power brake booster and master cylinder could use a refinish also. I had the original carburetor professionally rebuilt($$$) and cleaned and it now looks and functions like new. The car starts right up and runs great. I just changed all the engine and transmission fluids and filters and flushed the brake system. The car’s suspension bushings and steering bushings are a little worn due to age and some of those could be replaced to tighten the ride a bit. The car’s original exhaust was in bad shape so I removed it and have replaced it with an original style aluminized exhaust. The car’s battery and alternator are brand new along with a new set of plugs and plug wires. The front brake rotors and rear drums and front brake pads are new also. The car has a new mechanical cooling fan clutch, and a brand new gas tank with a new and correct 2-line sending unit and a brand new fuel pump. The car’s driveshaft had a dent in it so I purchased a GM original and installed new u-joints and a new Spicer TH400 transmission yoke. I also replaced the front seal on the rear axle. The front and rear shocks are new along with the rear sway bar bushings. So that's about all the detail I can provide. I would restore it even more completely myself and try to sell it for a profit, but I just don’t have the time considering I want to build a track car. I could easily have someone shoot it in the original Buccaneer red and apply the proper decals and do some additional detailing in the engine compartment, and undercarriage and get $28K+ for it. Or I could go even a bit further and restore/rebuild the engine and transmission and do some more in depth restoration work here and there and truly get $40K to $50K for it just like people are doing right now in those links I provided earlier. But I just don’t have the time or energy for that considering my other goals. Maybe you do and it’s a great opportunity for you. I've worked hard to maintain a 100% feedback rating on Ebay. Review my feedback on other car parts that I’ve sold and see that I don’t lie about what I sell. I'm not a bullsh_tter and I believe in honesty and integrity. Feel free to ask any questions you like and I'll be happy to answer them. I'm located in northern San Diego county and prospective buyers are welcome to come see and inspect it in person in my garage. I’ll be glad to raise the car up and let you crawl under it and fully inspect it. I’m only 1 hour from Orange County and 1.5 hours from central LA. I'll be happy to ship the car by a transport company, but you will need to find, choose, and pay for this on your own. My zip code is 92130. PLEASE READ: I’m not interested in trades or payment plans and I will NOT reveal the reserve price although I will say that the reserve price is probably lower than you think it is and someone could get a great deal. I have this car for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time unless someone has a current bid higher than the reserve. Winning Bidder will need to pay a deposit of $1000 via PayPal within 24 hours. The remaining balance will need to be paid within 5 days via cash or an official bank check or wire transfer. I do not accept personal checks, pesos, or wampum. :)
