1949 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Coupe Rare Cypress Green Beige Leather Interior Tan Haartz Cloth Top Power Windows Power Top V8 – 331 cu in 160 bhp Four Speed Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission Independent Front Suspension with Coil Springs Live Rear Axle with Semi-Elliptic Leaf Springs Four Wheel Hydraulic Drum Brakes 126” Wheelbase Brand New Sombrero Wheel Covers (additional set of Wire Hubcaps in the trunk) Motor Trend Magazine, an automobile enthusiast publication that debuted in 1949, was the first to name a Car of the Year in its inaugural year. Since then, the designation has been used to distinguish a variety of vehicles as evaluated by numerous other groups and organizations. Motor Trend’s first award went to Cadillac in 1949 for its V8 engine models. As many upmarket automakers struggled to retool for civilian production after the end of World War II, Cadillac emerged as the new leader in the American luxury market, in terms of both style and power. The 1948 Cadillac was a blockbuster, no one expected much in the way of new excitement for 1949… boy were they wrong. Most notably, the new, compact and powerful 331 cubic inch overhead valve V8 engine was introduced in 1949. While its initial output was 160 horsepower, just 10 more than its predecessor, the new engine was markedly smoother, better performing and more economical. 1949 also marked the second year for the unique and venerable P-38 Tail Fins, designed from the same Lockheed WWII Fighter Plane of that era. A fully revamped interior benefited from a new instrument panel design, door molding and trim. There are just an innumerable set of body ques and details that combine to create a stunning overall presentation. The ’49 is simply one of the quintessential Cadillac’s of the 20th Century. This 1949 Cadillac Convertible is a rare and interesting automobile. This is a very original, zero rust automobile, likely having spent its entire life in California or Arizona. It appears to be a very original low mile car. We doubt that the 23K is original but 123K is just as unlikely. This car has had a very easy life and looks to have between 50 and 75K miles. The body is straight as an arrow with no signs of body repair. The car has a recent high-quality respray finished in the cars original 1949 Cadillac color code, beautiful Cypress Green. The color is a rich jade hue that glimmers in the sunlight, and is the only 1949 Cypress Green Convertible we have ever seen. The front - rear bumpers and all side trim and Sombrero wheel covers are concourse condition. Several exterior parts including the grill remain original and are in outstanding condition, with the exception of the slightly itted original trunk handle. The two piece front windshield, steering wheel and all glass is excellent original condition. The passenger rear window has a crack and the window weather stripping (felt) is original and could use replacement. The interior seats & door panels are newly finished in rich OEM genuine deluxe beige leather, and new carpets are correct green wool. The beige canvas power convertible top is also new OEM, and open / closes perfectly. Mechanics: 1949 was the first year for the new 331 CI 160+ H.P. Cadillac V8 engine, and the smoothness of this particular motor is remarkable. Cadillac and Oldsmobile were the first to offer this lightweight, high compression, overhead valve engine. It remained a huge success for over thirty years. This car’s engine and transmission have low mileage and this Cadillac can be driven anywhere at highway speeds. The car runs very quiet & cool, starts and stops perfect and all wiring is original with everything working properly. The vehicle sports new correct Firestone white wall tires and new brakes. The undercarriage is exceptionally clean, with a new fuel tank and lines installed. The car has been stored – registered in Malibu, CA for many years, and is currently 2010 registered. I would rate this little gem as a Show Quality Driver. You would be proud to display this vehicle at almost any local and regional car shows and rallies. This is truly and excellent example throughout. Given its dashing styling, formidable V8 power and rich appointments, it is an outstanding vehicle by any collector’s standards. Unfortunately, the car needs to be liquated and is seriously For Sale at this time. I have set the price under market for the new owner. The car is for sale locally and may be removed from the eBay format at any time for that reason.
