Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1929 Oldsmobile 2 dr sedan with dual side mounts I have owned this survivor relic for about 8 years now and never really did anything with her except drive her for a vehicle inspection and licensing (which although very fun, scared the heck out of me due to weak mechanical brakes). Since then she has remained in my garage under a non-op status. Once in a blue moon I’d drive her on the dirt road to the mailbox. Too many other cars and projects. I transported her from New Brunswick, Canada with the original 1929 Maine license plates which come with the car. At some point she was used in parades with mock-up Tommy guns and the “Untouchables” written on each door. Running gear condition: Currently I have been working on the carburetor and fuel pump (mechanical) . Pretty simple stuff but haven’t yet managed to get it running very consistently. Needs new exhaust system, and smokes a little when cold. Needs new muffler and tailpipe. Clutch stutters a little. No leaks in cooling system. Brakes need attention. Steering and suspension seem fine. Two new rear tires, could use new front tires and tubes but still hold air for about two weeks at a time. I should be able to get her running to get her on to a trailer but won’t recommend driving her home! Body and interior: I think it still has the original upholstery as you can see in the pics. Needs new carpet on front floor boards; headliner has a 3 inch square patch in it and a 7” cut. Exterior was originally green and later maybe red. Fenders have some garage dents (bought it this way). No rust problems. One hold down knob missing for one of the dual spare mounts- just using a standard nut. Chrome or nickel in bad condition. I added on the doorhinge exterior rearview mirrors. Trunk is probably a very old aftermarket accessory. Drivers’ side exterior door handle is broken and needs repair or replacement. Someone had epoxied it previously and it worked for a couple of years until I broke it and discovered the repair. I re-epoxied it, but am afraid to test it. All glass good and windows roll up and down. Roof material looks very good, and does not leak. Speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge not working. Ampmeter , oil pressure and water temp gauges work. Vacuum windshield wiper not working. Electrical: Headlights work, brake and tail light don’t. Dash light works. Generator charges. 6 volt battery six months old. No heater. Horn still works with original steering wheel button! Someone could turn this into a rod, but there is just too much of the original in restorable condition and it would be a shame to see it go that way.
