1999 Honda Foreman 400es

1999 Honda Foreman 400es 4 wheel drive. 1862 miles and 400hrs. Mileage subject to change prior to auction end as machine is still in use. I bought this vehicle with the intention of using it on the farm for yard work and fence maintenance, etc. I have since decided to step up to either a side by side or mini truck. Something with a bed that will be of more use to me. The machine starts right up without the use of the choke and idles as it is supposed to do. It rides reasonably well, but it is all wheel drive meaning you can't put it into 2 wheel drive mode. As a result, it steers a little harder than other quads that I have had that were selectable 4wd. The clutch is a little noisy, and once in a while it will feel like it freewheels going down a hill. A friend of mine who is a Honda tech said that the one way bearing in the clutch is going bad, causing the noise and the freewheeling. I had planned on replacing it and the clutch at the same time, but it is still usable the way it is. The machine appears to have a new top end on it, but smokes when it is cold. I'm not sure if that is because of residual oil left in the exhaust from before the rebuild or maybe because of the old gas that is in it. The previous owner said that the quad had been sitting for over a year since it was last used. It does seem to be smoking less and less every time I use it. The tires are brand new ITP brand tires in the stock size. It has a new Interstate battery, and a fresh oil service. It also has a winch on the front, but it is not wired up. The brakes feel a little flaky, but they do stop the vehicle. I haven't had time to investigate them any further. They may just need cleaning and adjusting. I don't regularly use them as letting off the throttle is usually enough to stop the vehicle. The plastics are in good shape, and there is no rust on it. All the lights, speedometer, odometer, and cigarette lighter work. All in all, this would make a very nice machine with a little tlc.
