Vehicle Detail
Beautiful 1976 240 Diesel Mercedes I've had this mercedes for a while and its run every time without problem. It has a small 4 cylinder Diesel engine that gets great gas mileage. As far as I can tell, everything is original on the car. Here's the details on it: Exterior: The paint is faded, but doesn't look bad. There are a few minor rust spots, but nothing excessive especially for a 34 year old car. The Diesel badge is missing on the trunk, I used to have it but can't find it. The '240' badge is still present. Front grille is broken down the middle, but it stays in place just fine. Radio antennae is just a bolt. I have an old antennae stuck on it. Rear passenger side hub cap is lighter than the others becuase the original was lost. This was the closest match I could find. Interior Front seats are torn on the bottom section but there is plenty of padding and are comfortable - seat covers would work well Rear seats have a few minor rips but mostly looks good - all the padding is worn out in the rear, but they are still usable Radio works - It is Original - I think only one speaker works The fan switch isn't working right, so the previous owner put a toggle switch under the dash to make them work. The heat and cooling sliders still work properly. Manual windows and locks - all work perfectly Headliner looks original and is in great condition except for the back drivers side corner (pictured) One small crack in the dash. Steering wheel is in amazing condition with no worn spots and this car can turn on a dime! Engine 4 cylinder diesel 64 horsepower - not a ton of power but all the torque of a Diesel Turn the key and pull a knob to warm the glow plugs and to start Starts every time without problem This could easily be converted to BioDiesel Problems.... Some of the dash guages work, some don't. I'm not good at figuring out stuff like this, so I haven't tried to fix it. Another is the odometer. It says 26,919 and doesn't have a 6th digit. I'm going to assume that the miles are about 150,000. I know I sound like I'm bashing the car and that its a piece of junk... its not. It really is a great car that looks really good. When I see other cars like this, they usually are more abused and don't look half as good. I also have all the original books! There is a pamphlet that lists all gas stations in the nation that carry Diesel fuel! The original receipt for full payment of the vehicle from the Mercedes Dealership is included. (Owner paid $9808.25 back in 1976) I can send pictures of the books and receipt upon request. The car runs great and I merely just fill it up every once in a while. Since its not currently registered I only drive it around the block once a month to keep things moving. The doors close more solidly than any car I've ever owned. It is a great, solid, well working vehicle. I don't need a 3rd vehicle anymore, but I do need cash for my kids and the new school year. Why didn't anyone tell me that kids were so expensive!?!?!?
