Vehicle Detail
I am helping my friend sell his remarkable MGB Limited Edition. This car is in remarkable condition and belongs with a MG purist who will keep her original and drive her like she was intended. If you are looking at this car you know about the Limited Edition MGB but here is a little more information on the model itself: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE The Limited Edition was a marketing endeavor between B-L and the U.S. distributorship in Leonia, NJ to boost slipping sales in the North American Market. The production period of the North American version "LE" was 1979-1980. When I asked Don Hayter how it was that it was assured that the cars were always black, he stated that there was an agreement between "Leonia" and all North American dealers that the "LE kit" would be only installed on black cars and to buy a black car of that time period, it had to be a Limited Edition only. There were 6,668 produced in the two years of production. The ironic thing about the "LE kit" is that it is partially made up of parts manufactured in the U.S. The front air dam and luggage rack were made in the U.S. and then shipped over to England for packing into a kit that was then shipped back to the U.S. with the cars selected to be "LE"s, which were then installed by the selling dealer. This is why some "LE"s do not have a luggage rack. The dealer no doubt pulled it from the kit to put on another customer's non-LE car. As the B-L listing (below) shows, the following items make the Limited Edition unique as compared to the other MGB models of that time period. it must be also noted that the North American model came only in the "Tourer" body style and not the GT. Front air dam L.E. Five spoke alloy wheels, manufactured by GKN, with MG hub center appliqués Silver lower body stripes Luggage rack Leather covered, padded, three spoke steering wheel with a special center hub. This uses the same MG applique as the wheels. A Limited Edition dash plaque installed on the glove box. Items NOT part of the kit, as has been stated by some people, is Cocoa floor mats, overdrive, or air conditioning unit. Now on to Brad's award winning car. This is a California car that was originally sold in the Florida. It was purchased and driven in Tampa from 1980 through 1998 by a woman named Maryln. In 1998 it was shipped, and yes we have the shipping paperwork! to the Bay area. It arrived here on January 25, 1999 and has lived here ever since. Brad purchased the car in 2001 and has lovingly cared for her since then. We have a 3" thick file with maintenance records back to 1980...remarkable. It currently has just under 75,000 miles. It recently passed CA emissions testing and is licensed for another year. With the strict new CA emissions laws it is proof positive that this car is running very well. It has the original tonneau cover to cover up the top when it is down as well as the cockpit tonneau cover that can close up the whole cockpit when the top is down or be unzipped to make the car a single seater with the drivers seat only exposed. The car had one repaint and it was done very well in 1996 just before Brad bought it. It is important to understand that THIS CAR HAS NEVER, AND IT CURRENTLY DOES NOT HAVE ANY RUST ANYWHERE! This is a remarkable car that has never seen salt and rarely ever saw rain. It comes with a new CD player but the original radio is included with the car and the dash has not been cut in any way. If you look at the pictures you will see this is a fine example of a LE MGB. It is a driver to be sure, but it is also an award winner. Small things like water pumps and alternators have been replaced along the way but the car has never had any engine issues whatsoever. The Beige interior is in very good condition, all gauges and electrics work as they should. The clock even works! Take a look at the pictures and then let us know what questions you may have. We have started the bidding at a reasonable number and the reserve price is well within the value of this car.
