I am the original owner of this BMW R90 which was purchased from Golden Gate BMW in San Francisco in 1976. This bike has mostly been stored in a garage and ridden only once a year for the first several years, and then not so much after that. It has 12,200 miles and has not required any mechanical maintenance other than normal oil changes and battery replacements. I did replace the tires several years ago, and the new ones have only a few thousand miles on them. Everything is working as new. The only issue that I can find is that the high-beam switch has a glitch. This switch flashes the high beams, but does not continuously stay on as it should when switching from low to high. Possibly a loose wire or a switch replacement is needed. This bike comes with the Luftmeister fairing and the Krauser hard saddle bags. These bags are great because they remove easily and can be carried into a motel room. The fairing keeps you mostly dry during rain, and protects from the wind. I also added an after-market rear seat rest, which works but is showing its age. Also included are all the original tools and manuals. A new sealed battery was recently installed. If you live within the continental U.S. you will have no trouble driving this one home. Highway cruising speed is very smooth at 80-85mph, but according to the manual, the bike is designed for continuous touring at 120 mph. Aside from being a great sport and touring motorcycle, this one always attracts a crowd of interested bystanders, even more than we experience with our Harley. Of course the lady greatly prefers the vibration-free comfort of the BMW to our Harley.
