With a claimed 65,000 original miles and a dry life spent in Arizona, this restored land yacht is a spectacular reminder of how Ford's Lincoln division attempted to define success and attainment in 1960. Today, a 1960 Lincoln is a rare sight. Premiere 4-Door Landau production was just 4,200 for 1960 and although Lincolns from 1958-60 look virtually identical, the three model years share almost no body panels so. This is a massive automobile and its arrival to any destination is dramatic. We're talking all original metal here and a long look down the sides of this long car shows just how smooth and straight the body is. This is a fairly recent paint application that is beautifully shiny and the bright work (there is a whole lot of beautiful chrome, stainless and die cast) looks knockout. The glass is great and the dark tint looks awesome with the Rose Glow finish. And, this is the 57B four door Landau which means when you power down all the windows (all power windows work great) you could probably fly a Cessna through the pillar-less hardtop opening. The interior of this car is enormous, and beautiful. Seat upholstery is terrific (newer, non original) the carpet is great and the dash and door panels are in very good condition. Although this was a non-air conditioned car from the factory, at some point an after market system was installed (it is from Arizona, remember?) and let me tell you, this thing blows a Yukon blizzard (see the Walk Around video for proof). The air conditioner in this car might be the most powerful system I have ever felt and with power steering and power brakes, this Lincoln Premiere drives easy and is extremely comfortable. And, with 430 cubic inches of old school muscle, this is no lazy Lincoln either. The engine fires instantly and the sound at idle is subdued and satisfying. Click the "Twin Range Turbo-Drive" into gear and the good ship moves its bulk with surprising swiftness. Shifts are smooth to the point of being almost imperceptible, the car tracks straight and there is no shake or vibration at any speed (view the Test Drive video for action). Take note however, you'll want to anticipate the need to stop or turn well in advance of the actual event. This is a long and large car but I was amazed at how easy it is to drive. Pull the release under the dash and tilt the hood forward to see an engine bay the equal in quality and cleanliness of the rest of this fine automobile. Lincolns used this bullet proof 430 V8 until 1965 and it has a well earned reputation for solid reliability. The heads have been pulled and updated with hardened inserts so that this original engine runs perfect on today's no-lead gas. The undercarriage of this car with its original factory undercoat is a solid confirmation of a lifetime in the dry southwest. You can easily see there has never been any rust or panel replacement. In fact, this rare Lincoln is ready to drive and enjoy just as it is. It probably wouldn't do too bad at a local car show either. When we took it to our local car show along with Liberace's Candelabra adorned Zimmer, this car was the hit of the show amongst hundreds of classics. Either way, I guarantee this 1960 Lincoln Premiere 4-door Landau will not go unnoticed, and not just because it's nineteen feet long. Because it is an incredibly rare piece of automotive history and is in spectacular condition. Presentation Videos Walk Around Test Drive Ultra Rare, Ultra Long, Lincoln Premiere That Has Never Had Any Body Rust (just a handful of these remain, almost none at this high condition level) Restored Grille Has Spectacular Definition (some of you young whippersnappers have never seen angled headlights before, have you?) It's Hard to Believe That Detroit Actually Used to Make Cars Like This (it's even harder to believe that this car almost looks like it was just made) We Will (free of charge) Send You Exact Measurements to Determine if You Need to Knock Out a Wall or Two So You Can Safely Berth This Ship Indoors (once you see this Lincoln up close, you'll know it's been indoors its whole life) Warning: If Being Stared At Bothers You, Do Not Buy This Car Why did Ford call this 3-speed automatic transmission a "Twin Range Turbo-Drive?" I don't know about the "Turbo" part but the "Twin Range" is because if you select "Drive 2" the car moves from a stop in 2nd gear. If you select "Drive 1" it starts in 1st. They Just Don't Make Bumpers Like This Anymore (that's a few pounds of chrome, stainless and die-cast you're looking at and it's in superb condition) Beautifully Smooth Metal and I Do Mean Metal (as in original, never hit, never rusted) I Don't Know Whether to Comment About the Stunning Condition or the Dizzying, I-Can't-Believe-It's-Real Style, Shape and Size (one thing's for sure; that's a straight body) I Can Guarantee That Your New 1960 Lincoln Premiere Landau Will Not Get Lost at the Car Show Just 4,200 Premiere Landau 4-Door Hardtops Were Made for 1960 (how many look and drive as well as this car a half century later?) Is It Happy or Angry? (it's beautiful) Sleek and Beautiful From Every Angle, Here We Get a Good View of the "Dagmars" (Dagmars = those 2 bumper bullets - Google it if you don't believe me) Check Out That Panel Fit and Consistent Lines (stylized crease in front fender/door is echoed on rear quarter/fender skirt) There's Not a Single Area on This Lincoln That Does Not Have Something Unbelievably Interesting Going On (restored hubcaps look as good as the fit/finish of the trim) Wide, Shiny and Way, Way Over-The-Top (rear panel was meticulously refinished with the black inset) You Want Drama? This Head Turning Lincoln Draws the Eye Like a Magnet (it is difficult to not look at this car and it is absolutely impossible not to love it) Dark Tint Looks Spectacular With the Windows Up (and. they power up and down perfectly) This is What Hardtop Motoring Is All About (when's the last time you've seen a car that can do this?) Dash, Door Panels, Carpet and Upholstery All in Excellent Condition If you asked someone familiar with restoring these very rare Lincolns, they would probably tell you that the vast majority of surviving cars have inoperable HVAC systems. Apparently, the heating and ventilation on 1958-60 Lincolns is far more complex than its single knob control would suggest. The good news is that this Lincoln's system seems to work just fine. The dial moves appropriately when you turn the knob and you can hear various flaps and doors operating somewhere deep within the cowl. Pull the knob out and the fan comes on and air does rush from the vents. 4-Way Power Seat (semi-operative*) Was One of the Things That Elevated the Premiere Above a Lincoln (yes, we know the upholstery is not correct so hold the e-mails non-bidders) (*When it feels like it wants too) This is the Coldest Car Air Conditioner I Have Ever Felt (you can see the quality a/c installation under the hood with 2 auxiliary fans for the condenser and smart hose routing) The Reading Lamps in the Sail Panel Were Another Premiere Feature - All Work Perfectly Original 430 Cubic Inch V8 Engine: 315hp @ 4,100 and 465 ft-lbs. torque @ 2,200 RPM Rebuilt Engine Includes Hardened Valve Inserts for Top Performance With Unleaded Fuel Friends Help You Move - Real Friends Help You Move Bodies (plenty of original carpeted space for whatever you "need" to move in this trunk) You Can Still See the Factory Undercoat on This Spectacular Undercarriage The "Directed Power" Badge on the Trunk Refers to This 2.89 Limit Slip Axle (see below) Tank Removed and Boiled Clean too. Why does it say "Directed Power Differential" on the trunk lid? That's Ford's fancy name for the optional limited slip differential. We hate them too. Check out that beautiful sweeping "C" that starts behind the headlight and ends above the gold Premiere emblem. When's the last time you saw anodized gold trim on a car? The front of the car looks like it's in another state. Brand New Coker Whitewall Radials Baby! One of the very few cars where fender skirts are appropriate. Refinished rear panel looks awesome. Refinished grill panel looks awesome. The wrap-around windshield actually wraps up too. (it's called a compound wrap-around and the rear window does it too) You think those busy Lincoln designers left the roof alone? Not a chance. Whoosh . . . Into the future! It's a bubbleback. It's the jet-age! Could probably fly a Cessna through there. The front of the car is in another time zone. That's smooth metal, folks. Dagmars This is the kind of quality you're getting. Control Tower: "Lincoln flight 1960, you're cleared to land, runway 21 right." Chrome locking gas cap, baby! Refinished hubcaps, baby! Switchblade rear view mirror looks brand new from here. Air conditioning lines. One of the best professional installations we've seen. They called the trunk liner "Butex." Spare but no Jack or tools to be found Trunk light works. Knob on very far right resets the odometer. One may have been the power antenna. But it does not work. The "Travel-Tuner" radio's "Town & Country" function still works but the real FM radio is now in the glove box. Extreme High Quality Carpets & Headliner Materials Used Viva!
