Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a 1976 BMW 2002. The body is in fair condition, with the usual rust issues. The rocker panels are gone and the spare tire well in the trunk is gone. The rear shock towers are in good shape with light rust on the right side, the left side appears good. The wheels and tires are in excellent shape with way more than 50% tread left on good tires. The bumpers look good and straight although if someone wanted to restore the car, they would probably want to re-chrome them. All of the windows are present and working. There is a small chip in the windshield. The interior is in pretty good shape with a minor crack in the dash and some tearing on the front seats. The door panels are in fair shape, they are loose at the bottom and have some minor rips. There has been a carpet kit put in somewhat recently. The headliner is present but has a couple of rips and is quite discolored from the sunroof leaking over the years. The visors are present and useable, but the fabric is loose. The rear package tray is very distorted, but is intact. The rear seat is in fair condition with a couple of small holes. There has been an add on air condition unit put on at some point, but it is disconnected and the current belt bypasses the pulley, so I’m not sure if it works or not. As far as the engine, it does run, but I believe it needs a new distributor. It appears that the advance mechanism is shot on the original distributor and there is some play in the shaft so it will not advance or retard properly and will not hold steady time. At idle and low RPM it runs fine but will cut out when you give it too much gas. The points have been eliminated in favor of a Crane electronic ignition and coil, so with a new distributor, it should run like a top. The engine side of the radiator has some dings in it from the fan blade which has apparently distorted over time. The radiator is sound, but the fan blade should be replaced before too long to keep from causing a problem. It appears that at some point the radiator was upgraded to a larger one and that the alternator was upgraded to a higher output unit as well. There is a Weber 32-36 carb with electronic choke that seems to work well. I do have the air cleaner and cover, but it is not shown in the pictures. The transmission and clutch are sound, although it is sometimes tough to get into 2nd gear, which is somewhat common on these from what I understand. All in all, this will be a good little daily driver as is, but will need a little bit of attention to get it there. Fortunately nothing major is needed to make it roadworthy. This will probably never be a show car, but with some elbow grease it can be made to be a very presentable daily driver. This is a very cool little car and always gets looks and a crowd when I have had her out. Please be advised that this car is also for sale locally and that I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Please drop me an email with any questions.
