Vehicle Detail

1957 Pontiac Chieftan Catalina 2 door hardtop, No Reserve! This is a true survivor that has just been pulled out of a 5 year storage. Always garaged. Only 2 previous owners with the first family owning the car until 1996. Original 2 tone Braeburn Green with Nassau Green Top and insert. The car's exterior is in just fair condition but has no rustout or bunches of bondo. The pictures make the car look better than it is. The car has weak paint and evidence of being hit lightly in the front(the fenders are wavy, but repairable). It was repaired many years ago but the bodywork is beginning to show through. The hood has a crack at the right hand edge that has an old repair and needs repairing again. There is no rust-out on the underside of the car nor is there any in the trunk. There are many spare parts in the trunk, as well as the original spare, jack, and tire changing tools. For an original car, this is the nicest trunk I have ever seen. The red stuff in the up close view is glue and felt residue, not rust. All the chrome is in fair to good shape but is thin in some areas, the grille is really nice. The original 347 motor with single carberator and hydramatic transmission are in the car. The car starts, runs and drives, but the car will not idle from sitting so long and the left side of the dual exhaust smokes a little. The brakes work but the power brake vacuum line or master cylinder is weak, the pedal is very stiff but stops the car. The parking brakes work. Power steering, power brakes, and hydramatic transmission. The headlights and tail lights work but the turn signals do not. The speed warning where the speedometer color turns red still works. The radio hums when turned on but is not picking up any stations. The driver's side wiper arm is missing. One cracked rear passenger window and a rock chip in the widshield, all other glass is in good shape. The window chrome is super nice and both flippers work. The interior is super nice with the exception of the headliner which is wrinkly but has no holes, it could be stretched an restapled. On the negative side, The car will drive onto a trailer, but thats it. It will have to be gone through mechanically and electrically before you can drive it on a daily basis. On the positive side, the car is the most solid original unrestored 1957 General Motors product I have ever owned. If you got it running and did nothing else, it would be a neat survivor. Again, this car is fresh out of storage with absolutely nothing done to it. Car is sold with a bill of sale and copy of registration only, this is the law of the state of Georgia and with these two items you can register the car in all 50 states. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. If you have any other questions or trades email me or call (478) 918-5294. - Thanks, Guy On Jul-26-10 at 20:40:54 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had a few questions over the phone, so here goes- The milage shown could be 29,000 or 129,000, I do not know. The Windows roll up and down fine. Door panels look good, they have a waffle pattern in them. I have not pulled out or back the carpet it's old and too nice to tear up. The underside of the pans look good. The tires hold air but are old. The hubcaps are original as are the wheels. The speaker is under the dash. The wheelbase of this car is the same as a 1957 chevy. A non-refundable $500.00 deposit is required within 48 hours, paypal or check OK for that. Remander of Payment is in the form of cash, cashier's check, or bank transfer. All monies must fully clear bank before shipment. I will assist shipper to load the car if required. The car is stored inside and I will keep it inside until you pick it up or have it picked up, 90 days max. I am interested in Nomads and Safaris, 30s, 40s, 50s 60s American cars, porsche 356, 911, etc. The reason I am selling is I have a line on a Safari.
