Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1980 Toyota Corolla and probably one of the nicest original models you are likely to find anywhere. Little background info: I purchased this car on ebay a year and a half ago for $3100.00 It was located in San Fransisco, CA I spent $168.00 on a one way flight out of Des Mones, Iowa to San Fransisco. It cost me $141.00 in gasoline to drive all the way home to Mason City, Iowa. My wife could not believe that it was cheaper to drive than fly. It averaged 37 mpg over the course of 2200miles. I flew into San Fran, purchased this vehicle, had to have it inspected in the State of California, then my first stop at the nearest garage. All the fluids looked great, but just because I am a perfectionist I had them change the oil and completely flush the transmission fluid, (Very clean/almost immaculate 1.8L 5speed manual) and the radiator as well. Then I went to the tire store, and put 4 brand new tires on. Then drove her home. The first car I ever bought was a 1980 toyota corolla but in light blue, I purchased this vehicle with the plans to completely bring back to perfection. I have too many sticks in the fire, too many passions, and need to let go of this project. This car is perfect as is, no work needed, runs perfect, starts every time. I did do a little bit of maintenance, and some light mechanical work as well, or I should say, I paid to have it taken care of. All work performed is listed as follows: I had the oil, radiator, and transmission fluid changed upon purchasing car($175.00), 4 new tires (just over $300.00) (also has a new looking spare tire, holding air under carpet in the back) I changed the oil again when I got home. All new belts, sprung a leak from cracked rubber hose, so I had all the radiator hoses replaced($160.00), and also put in a new interstate battery $120.00 or more, cant remember exact. Clutch is like new, went floppy on me, took it in and had the slave cylinder replaced, ($540.00 they offered to fix something else they spotted and I said go ahead, I cant remember but can go to the shop and have them print out a list of work performed if someone requests it) Went to start her up a few weeks ago and nothing, tried again, nothing, third time she started. Tried to start her again nothing, then she started, I took in and starter was going bad, had them replace with a new starter and also all new brakes, pads, rotor, calipers, also repacked the wheel seals, and put all new brake hoses $665.00) This vehicle was a one owner who took excellent care and it shows. I am the same, the slightest little odd tick and Im onto it on any vehicle Ive owned, and as you can see, the slightest hint and I am digging to find it, figure it out and fix it. This little car will probably outlast the new 2010 corolla. It is mechanically sound in every way to the best of my knowledge. My brother-in-laws sister drives hers (1981) for last 20 years since college still and is running at well over 300,000 miles. It is missing a rear passenger side wheel center cap, only cosmetic, I just never got around to replacing it. They are $20-$70 depending where you purchase it from. Just google 1980 corolla center cap and do some digging for the lowest price, but they are out there and easy to find. There was a small rock chip in the front windshield, from a truck in front of me throwing up a rock, I had it repaired. It is smaller than a dime, just a tiny little spider splinter, and it will never spread, nowhere near your field of view, no big deal. There is also a dent in the rear passenger fender, and a dent/scrape on the passenger door as shown in the pictures, I do not know how they came to be, They were there when purchased, I planned on fixing, but like I said, I am now letting her go. The interior has two blemishes - The headliner had one little dent/tear as shown in the pictures near the over head light, and the driverside seat is torn and fraying in one spot, but repairable I am sure. That is it, thats all there is from keeping the interior from being perfect. The back seats also fold down with a spare tire compartment built-in under the carpet. No cracks in dash, no nothing, it really is super clean. Oh, the resetable 0-999 trip marker is stuck at 542 or something, It has never moved, but the odometer and everything else is fine. There is one spot of rust on the rear where the liftback closes as shown, otherwise rust free California car, and garage kept by me here in Iowa, never driven in the winter also. It had 98,000 original miles when I bought it, I turned it over and it now reads 002301 I put 4300 miles on and there is a total of 102301 original miles. Those who are familiar with the 3T-C Engine know that this is nothing. Engine is super strong, very easy to accidently squak/chirp the tires. Rear wheel drive. Very zippy. Ebrake works perfect too. I figure I have $3100 purchase price + another $2000.00 invested in this car. I hate to even sell it. I would not hesitate to drive it non-stop from east coast to west coast and back again and again. I feel it IS that reliable. This car is a head turner, I zip around here and there in the summer and find myself in a conversation with someone telling about this little gem all the time. Just look at the pictures of the inside of the doors, just perfect, no rust, just like showroom shine still. You just dont find them in this type of condition, you dont. I looked for years before I finally found this one. There is no reserve, I am very confident that there will be a demand. All questions are welcome, and will be answered in a timely manner. Best of luck bidding, I know the winner will drive home a happy man. On Jul-25-10 at 20:32:38 PDT, seller added the following information: Does not burn or use a drop of oil, and there are absolutely no fluid leaks of any kind. Not a spot of oil on the undercarraige and the underside of the engine is bone dry, no grease/oily mess like some older cars. Im telling you, this is a diamond in the rough. On Jul-25-10 at 20:43:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Very confident, FLY-IN, drive anywhere. Averages around 30mpg or so around town, much much better on the highway. On Jul-26-10 at 07:24:15 PDT, seller added the following information: In answer to several buyer questions: Everything I can think of other than that trip counter not resetting, works perfect; rear windshield wiper works, rear windshield wiper pump even works. At first I didnt think it did. I got to looking at how to replace the pump and I found that the rear wiper has its own fluid resevoir in the back, and it was just empty. All turn signals and lights work. All the indicator lights work, the horn works and has a unique sound to it that I like, the heater works, the AC blows ice cold air which is a real plus, I do not know if the cigarette lighter works, but it looks to be original too. The original cassette tape deck & radio work, before flying out I dug out old Bon Jovi Slippery When Wet, and a couple more old tapes for the drive home from San Fran. Upon review, the brakes are all new, calipers etc, but I dont think the rotors are new, maybe they just reqround the rotors? I will call my mechanic to be sure. But definetly new pads, calipers and brake hoses, and they did repack all the wheel seals and bearings with grease. On Jul-26-10 at 11:45:41 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer several questions at once: YES I will drive Corolla to nearest Airport. I will drive/deliver Corolla to either Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, or Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport. For a flat fee of $60.00, + purchase price I will deliver Corolla with a completely full tank of gas, topped off with every penny she will hold. Auction winner will drive away with full tank regardless of delivery or not. My wife's Buick Terraza minivan does not get even close to the gas mileage, she will follow me to airport and we will travel back home together. On Jul-26-10 at 13:42:10 PDT, seller added the following information: The cigarette lighter does work and it charges cell phones as well. I also remembered, I did have new distributor and all new spark plugs and the good NKG plug wires installed too last year, the plug wires alone ran around $45.00, plus the plugs, distributor & cap ran around $200.00, and the labor. I did all the preventative maintenance I could, I about covered all the bases. My mechanic had fun with it. I specifically told him, if you see something it might need, DO IT. There is probably more that I have done that will come to mind if I think real hard. I do know that the tires only have 4000 miles on them and still have most of the little nipples you see on a brand new set of tires. On Jul-28-10 at 11:46:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Also included is: Toyota Corolla: 1980 thru 1987 All rear-wheel drive models Automotive Repair Manual (HAYNES) In great shape. I have used max pictures, so I cannot include a picture, but anyone can feel free to email me for more pictures of car etc. No problem. davidpoppy@hotmail.com
