Vehicle Detail
This is an original owner Karmann Ghia purchased new from Ely Volkswagon of Oakland, California in February 1966. The Ghia has slightly under 159,000 miles on it, about 50,000 on a replaced/rebuilt 1600 engine that runs very well (but does have a small oil leak). The electrical system has been converted to 12 volt. Since 2006 the following have been replaced: pressure plate, upper and lower ball joints, front brake cylinders and shoes, all brake hoses, master cylinder, and fuel tank with only 2-3,000 miles since then. Clock and original Saffhire III radio by Motorola work. The exterior is a deep royal red which may be a color only for 1966. There was a repaint in the mid 80's keeping the original color and still shows very well with only some slight road rash. Interior is black and looks good but is showing typical wear. The only things not working are the dealer installed safety flasher and the flasher to blink at another car if you want to give a "hi" sign. The best thing about this Ghia is the body. It has never been in an accident other then a slight tweak to the right front fender, a door ding, another ding in the engine lid caused by a ball. All have been repaired. There was a small bubble of rust at the bottom of the drivers door which was properly repaired by removal of the door, rolling the bottom edge down, cutting out the spot and welding in new metal. This was in the mid 80's. I noticed for the first time when detailing the car the other day another small bubble on the forward edge at the level of the two chrome strips. To my knowledge there are no other body issues. The car has always been garaged and never smoked in The reason for selling: it is not getting enough use and we have to many vehicles to maintain. We drive it only occasionaly in the summer and then just around our small town. We get more complements on this Ghia then a nicely restored 356 Porsche we drive. I have tried to be complete in my description but will try to answer any questions you may have.
