Vehicle Detail

The story: Up for sale is 1979 Porsche 928 5 speed manual. I have bought this car off ebay about 4 years ago as a project, it was non running. However, the previous owner claimed to have only 15000 miles on it, which it still does. Long story short, I found out that the engine block is cracked because there was water instead of coolant in the cooling system, and also, the previous owner have attempted to change the car from CIS injection to L-Jetronic. So, the project had started. Over the years I sourced used working parts for the CIS injection system, I sourced a 4.7L (M28.19) short-block with 80000 miles on it, in perfect condition. I pulled the old engine out, and then installed parts on the new short-block, by either pulling them from the old engine, cleaning and inspecting or by buying used or new parts. This summer I have finally assembled the engine and dropped it into the car. The engine cranks, I randomly checked couple of cylinders, the pressurized to about 180psi, the spark also checks out. The fuel system works, however, when attempting to pressurize it leaks. In the midst of fixing the leaks I had to relocate to the west coast for school, and now I don't have any ability to work on the car. So, unfortunately, I have to sell the car, as I live in the city and have no place/time for a restoration project. I have spent at least 2000$ in parts for this car, and originally payed 3200$+600$ shipping for the car. If one decides to part it out (I do hope the buyer will restore it to its original glory however), the LSD transmission itself should fetch 1500$ on EBay. I will be giving random CIS parts also, like fuel lines and two fuel distributors, as I have no use for them now. The fuel distributors are very expensive. So, my loss, your gain, I need to part with this car as I have no more realistic ability to work on it. So, here is a short run down of different systems: Engine and mechanical. Used m28.19 shortblock from a known good supplier (payed 800$+200$ shipping) Changed both main seals to new ones. Changed the head-gaskets to new ones. Had the heads cleaned, pressure tested and professionally rebuilt by Windsor Machine (500$) Changed the cam housing-to-head gaskets, and the camshaft seals. Changed the motor mounts to new ones. Changed timing belt to a new one. Changed water pump to a new pump. Changed most of the coolant hoses to new ones. New vacuum hoses. Set of 8 CIS fuel injectors, used but from Carl at 928 motorsports, flow rate calibrated. Brand new fuel pump. Custom made braided stainless steel fuel delivery hoses connecting from the underbody delivery hoses to the CIS system. Changed the oil pan gasket. Most of the bolts on the engine are new. Installed used MSDS equal length headers (700$ new, got used ones for 400$). The buyer will have to make the Y pipe though (50$-100$ at a local muffler shop should be enough). I also have the original Y pipe with the cat if one decides to go stock. Also, installed new solid aluminum steering rack mounts from Carl at 928 motorsports. New battery. As for the rest of the drive-train, expect the usual damage from the car sitting for 4 years in a garage. Again, the engine cranks, the spark plugs fire when they should, the fuel pump works and delivers fuel, however, there are fuel leaks which need to be worked out. The car has new oil and coolant in it, so, once those leaks are fixed after tweaking the ignition timing, the car should start. I have bought a different central shaft for the clutch, as the one in right now is too short, but didn't get a chance to install it. So, if one wants to drive the car after it starts, one would have to install it, which is a quick job. Another thing which needs to be changed is the clutch hose and potentially the slave cylinder, as the hose is cracked and the fluid leaked out. The slave can be rebuilt, which is inexpensive. Again, this is a project, the car will have to be taken out on a flat bed to whichever destination you want. However, this project is almost complete. Body. It seems like the previous owner have repainted the car a different color. The overall job seems to be of a pretty good quality. The body is straight. I have not washed the car for some time, as it is in the garage, but the surfaces I wiped, without even waxing show mirror like finish. There are couple of small scratches on the front left fender and door however. Also, the rear hatch doesn't lock for some reason, I think it is a lock adjustment problem. Overall, if washed and waxed the car should look pristine. There is absolutely no rust on the car. The interior seats are in pretty bad condition. The rear seats need to be changed, they completely disintegrated (the car is from Florida, so, a lot of interior sun damage). The front seats are cracked in places but still are usable. The dash is in decent shape for the age, however it cracked a tiny bit around the windshield vents. I also installed one brand new door window switch. In pictures you can see some white stuff on the nose, that should wash off, it is fiber residue from the car cover I had on it. Overall, for a mechanically inclined, interested and willing individual this is a wonderful opportunity to restore a fairly rare Porsche. Most of the job is done, the cosmetics, like the seats are easy to find for reasonable price on the ebay, and once the fuel leaks are fixed, the car should start. To whoever buys it I will give a set of factory manuals. Do not forget that the drive-train has only 15000 miles on it. The previous owner claimed that the car has an LSD, but I could not find any special code on the chassis. Either way, the transmission has 15000 miles on it. The engine should run forever and not give any trouble. I am really sad to let this project go, as it is almost finished, literally couple of weeks more work and the car would run, but it is pretty hard to fix cars over 3000 miles distance. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. This car is sold AS-IS. I have described it to the best of my knowledge. The information above is true to the best of my knowledge, however I am not a professional mechanic, therefore there could be some things I overlooked/don't know about. This is a project car, it will need to be picked up either with a flatbed or some sort of trailer.
