130 Pictures of this car are available on my Picasa page at this address:http://picasaweb.google.com/Tommassosupremo/1958750AlfaSpider# Alternatively you can search Picassaweb for 1958 Alfa Spider Just when you think all the barns are empty, you find something like this on the central coast of California. This is a 1958 750 D Spider Normale in remarkably original shape. This car appears to have been in inside storage for its entire life, and has been in the barn I found it in for the last 8 years. It has the original factory ID plate on the hood which matches the chassis number of 1495 03571, and lists the original engine number of 1315 43319. The original motor did not come with the car but it has series correct 750 engine from a 1957 spider normale, according to the Fusi list (Engine number 1315 41225). It comes with a tunnelcase four speed, and the transmission tunnel is uncut or modified. The original yellow tailights would indicate that this was probably a European delivery car. Instruments are in English and in decent shape. The car was last registered in 1986 and comes with a signed and dated 1969 California pink slip that matches the hood ID tag and the pair of black and yellow plates on the car. The California DMV shows the plate number to be clear and still registrable to this car. A bill of sale will be provided. I have spent several hours going over the chassis, and except for some light surface rust here and there, the car is totally rust free, no cancer or body rot anywhere to be seen. The original undercoating is mostly intact and the rockers are totally solid. The jack points are solid and there is a picture of the car on stands supported by the jacking points. The trunk and interior floors are solid. The battery area is solid with the small exception of a small fiberglassed area above the floor on the wheel arch. It looks like it may have been battery acid corrosion of the wheel arch, and in any event it is a very small patch. The original sound deadening in the interior is mostly intact, traces of the vinyl cloth glued over it are still visible and it has its original rubber mats. The seats appear to be original and have been re-covered and trimmed to match the original baby blue paint. They are completely unrusted and are very solid. The door panels and rear quarter panel covers appear to be original. The glove box is missing. The interior door trim is aluminum, and it comes with a Motorola “Volumatic” tube type radio. The top bows are complete, the top is rotted, and it comes with a tonneau cover that matches all the studs on the bodywork. The exterior mirror is a very nice Britsh “Radyot” alloy racing mirror. Windows are intact and roll up and down. The windshield is in good shape except for small bullseye chip on the driver's side. It has three 1960's Pirelli Cinturato II H rated tires on it with a lot of rubber still on them, and one mostly worn out tire of unknown origin. The has four Fergats mounted and comes with fifth Fergat rim, with no tire mounted, for the spare. Hubcaps are in varying stages of tired chrome with dings and dents. The hood ,trunk and doors all appear to be original to the car with good panel fit. There are the usual number of small dents and dings on the bodywork, all visible in the photos. The nose of the car, like every other Giulietta, has been hit at least once and repaired, again shown in detail in the photos. The greatest damage in this area is the missing bumper support tube and the small flat valence panel under the vent duct. The area where the bumper tube attached appears to be intact. The trim is mostly complete with the exception of the hood trim pieces. The front bumper brackets are in poor shape and all the front nose trim will have to be re-fit when it gets new nose repairs. Mechanically the car rolls very freely, and the condition of the brakes is completely unknown. The transmission shifts and the drive shaft and parking brake cables are still hooked up. The transmission tunnel shift boot bracket does not appear to be original. The engine was partly disassembled in place when I got it, and the spark plugs have been left out for many years. The engine does not turn and will require a full overhaul. The radiator will need re-coring. The intake manifold, exhaust manifold, carburetor, starter, generator and regulator are correct for the 750 motor. The car comes with a 750 header pipe attached to a very rusty muffler. The gas tank is empty and appears to be in good shape. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. The car is available for inspection in Los Osos, California at any time. Terms of sale are very basic. It comes with the 1969 California pink slip, signed and dated by the car's owner in 1986 and a bill of sale from myself . A non refundable deposit through Paypal is required within 48 hours of the end of the auction. The balance is due in cash or by wire transfer within 7 days of the close of the auction.
