Vehicle Detail
1971 Buick Riviera 1971 BUICK RIVIERA STILL SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN 39 years later....... Up for auction is a well cared for 1971 Buick Riviera. Very desirable and collectible first year production of the boatail Rivieras. Original 455 cubic inch V8 engine, auto transmission. This has been my mothers car (senior citizen, non smoker) for the last 25 years. Runs and drives excellent, uses less than one quart of oil between changes. Always garaged and well cared for; driven weekly. Has been maintained by the same professional GM/Buick mechanic (who recently passed away) since it was new. As can be seen in the pictures, it has quite a bit of rust thru around the lower front fenders, bottom door edges, and lower quarter panels. It should have new metal put in if you plan to restore it. Surface rust around outside mirrors, door handles, and side marker lights. Looks to have been repainted once a long time ago in the correct original color (copper mist). Never in any accidents, with all the original body panels. Has a small half dollar size ding and a small three inch scratch near the edge of the trunk, a few very minor door dings. The front bumper/grille/chrome/headlamp bezels and related parts are excellent. The rear bumper is very rusty, and should be replaced. The chrome on one wheel is very rusty in a spot where a wheelweight must have been at one time; two extra matching factory chrome wheels are included (plus the nice spare). Firestone tires size 235/75/15 are in excellent condition. Trunk is intact, but rust thru starting around edges and soft in spots. Floor of car is solid, front and back. The frame has the usual surface rust, but appears strong and solid. All of the window glass is sharp and clear, with no cracks, chips, scratches or fogging, with the exception of the drivers door, which has some scuffing from a worn window guide. All of the chrome/stainless trim around the windows is excellent, as is the chrome/stainless mirrors/door handles etc. All of the power windows work perfectly. The A/C functions mechanically, but recently has stopped blowing cold air. The drivers door armrest pad is worn and should be recovered or replaced. The drivers side seat has about a six inch split in the seam, and the passenger side door panel is missing a tiny piece of stainless trim that covers the pullstrap screw. Other than that, the interior and upholstery is in excellent original condition. The dash has no cracks or wear or discoloring, all of the gauges and trim is sharp and clear. Has the original factory AM/FM radio, but it is not working. The gas gauge float sticks sometimes. Has power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, rear defog, trip set, speed alert. The carpeting is excellent and it has the original Buick floormats. The door panels and side panels and trim are excellent, as is the rear panel below the rear window. The headliner looks like new. I know that the car has never been smoked in as long as my mother has owned it, and quite possibly has never been. I could have had the rust repaired, and the car painted/detailed and asked a whole lot more for it, but I decided to offer it just as it is. You can see exactly what you're getting. When you buy a car with fresh bodywork, primer, and a shiny new paint job, you never know what is "hiding underneath", or if it was just a "cosmetic repair", made to last just long enough to sell it. My mother is not looking to "get rich" selling it, but rather hopes that "her baby" of twenty five years will go to someone who will truly appreciate it and care for it as she has. It is being sold with no reserve price, so it will go to the highest bidder. I have made every attempt to describe the car as accurately as possible, and note any defects or areas that need work. But it is of course being sold "as is", with no warranty expressed or implied. The car has been sitting for the last two months without being driven, and when I went to move it to take the pictures, I noticed that the brake pedal was kind of spongy. The brakes didn't seem to grab quite as good as they should; I don't know if that's just from sitting, or maybe it will need a master cylinder soon. There were a couple of very small oil spots as well. Comes with a clean clear title with no problems. Drive and enjoy as is, or would make for a fairly simple and easy restoration. Even comes with a full tank of premium gas. Feel free to ask any questions. Thank you, and best of luck in your bidding! *************************************************************************** IMPORTANT INFO! PLEASE NOTE: Before bidding, please be aware that you are responsible for picking up the vehicle here, at this location, in Menominee MI. Note that we are in the "U.P." of Michigan, north of Wisconsin, not "Lower MI". We cannot deliver, "meet you" anywhere, nor can we come and pick you up anywhere. There is no local "fly in, and drive it back" airport service available here. And due to its age, and for your own peace of mind, I strongly recommend that you trailer the vehicle to your location. Although it runs and drives excellent, as I noted, the brakes seem a little spongy, and as with any 39 year old vehicle, its always possible that anything can go wrong, at any time. At the very least, I would have someone come with you with a reliable vehicle to follow you back, in the event that you would have to make some "on the road" repairs. The initial paypal deposit of $500.00 U.S. is due within 24 hours of winning bid. The rest is due upon pickup of vehicle. CASH ONLY. U.S. currency. We will not accept cashiers checks, money orders, bank drafts, wire transfers, or any other form of payment.
