Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I discovered the Lotus marque not long after parting with my MGB. Like many otherowners of British sports cars, I found the story of the company's founding by the legendary Colin Chapman, quite fascinating, never thinking I'd actually own one. But during a mid-life crisis moment at a local auto show, I saw a gorgeous Esprit and decided I had to have one. In 2001 I purchased a 1990 Stevens-body model from its fourth owner, a Toronto area GM dealership. The Esprit was a stand-out Calypso red and had only 28,000 miles on it. The timing belt had just been replaced, and it only needed new tires and shocks to pass inspection. Four new Dunlop SP Sport 9000's and a set of Spax adjustable shocks and I was on the road. The original leather interior and carpeting are in a tear-free, low wear condition, and the paint finish and body panels look great. The carpet is gray and the leather is black. I've added black "Lotus" floor mats a set of theft-proof tire valve caps, and a K & N air filter. I realigned the power window tracks and keep them lubed with silicone spray. I installed a new fuel vent line between the twin filler doors-the car has two! Gentry Lane Motors, the Lotus franchise dealer in Toronto, replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders and upgraded the clutch tube. I also had them install a new muffler last year. The ECU was replaced to correct a starting problem, and a new set of P & S injectors and plugs solved a rough-idle issue. I only use Mobil 1 for oil changes and Sunoco 94 octane fuel if I'm not too far away from a station. The battery is brand new and the car comes with a factory Lotus service and electrical manual worth over $300. The car is running great with plenty of boost. Many replacement parts can be sourced through GM as Lotus and General Motors were affiliated for several years. The car had no history of accidents until I met up with a parking lot curb and managed to crack a corner of the front air dam. There are a few stone chips from our country road and some minor scratches on the left headlight pod. In April 2009 at 33,600 miles, I had the Esprit inspected and appraised for insurance purposes. The appraisal calls it a very clean and well-maintained example of the Marque. The report and service records are available. The Esprit is a rare automobile and a real attention-getter- like you wouldn't believe and has only been driven 34,200 miles since new. I will miss it, but other interests require I put it up for sale. A $500 deposit by Pay Pal will be due within 24 hours of purchase with the balance to be paid in cash or wire transfer within 7 days of purchase . Buyer will make their own shipping arrangements. ough it might need a windshield washer pump and some dash bulbs. A lot of the parts can be sourced through GM as Lotus and General Motors were affiliated in 1990.
