Vehicle Detail

Absolutely beautiful 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko / SC tribute Classic Autoworx is proud to offer this beautiful Azure Blue 1969 Yenko / SC Camaro tribute for your consideration. Before we get into the details about the car, let’s start with some history… At Don Yenko's urging, Chevy agreed to factory-build a batch of 1969 Camaros with 427 engines, and to provide full 5-year/50,000-mile warranties. This was done under the Central Office Production Order system, which had previously been used to satisfy special requests from non-performance fleet buyers. How many COPO Camaros were built isn't known; Yenko ordered 201. All were basically the same: They had the iron-block and head, solid-lifter L72 427, which Chevy claimed made 425 bhp but which Yenko rated a more-realistic 450 bhp; Hurst four-speed manual or dual-gate automatic; heavy-duty 4.10:1 Posi; cowl-induction hood; heavy-duty Z28 suspension with F70xl4 tires; and other go-fast goodies. The package added about $800 to a base coupe, including $490 for the engine. They were then dressed with "sYc" (Yenko Super Car) insignia and striping, and made available mags, gauges, headers, and other items that could push the price past $4,600. As delivered, Yenko Camaros turned effortless mid-13s. Most were fitted with headers and slicks, even for street work, and in this form recorded 11.94-second ETs at 114 mph. A Yenko / SC CLONE is currently for sale on the Barrett-Jackson website for $62, 700. A bargain by Yenko Camaro standards. HOWEVER THIS CAR IS AVAILABLE FOR ABOUT HALF THAT COST! … A REAL DEAL!!! However, if you are wondering what it will take to own a real Yenko Camaro in or about this condition, you’ll have to shell out $250,000+ in most cases to own one. Which makes this car even that much more of a bargain!!! PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO VIEW THE GIANT PHOTOS THAT HAVE BEEN LISTED HERE FOR YOUR CONVIENENCE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK BEFORE BIDDING. This particular car started out as a V8 powered 1969 Camaro built at the Norwood, Ohio plant on the 4th week of October, 1968. What made it so appealing to turn into the legendary Yenko/ SC is the straight and relatively rust free body that it retained. This car looks to have spent most of it’s life in California, which is where it was found and still has most of it’s original sheetmetal including trunk pan, which is solid. The car has never been wrecked that we can see or had any major structural repairs except for a floor pan replacement likely due to a previously leaky heater core. No, it’s not a real big block Yenko Camaro, but it definitely looks and sounds the part! BODY/ PAINT: Obviously, we can forget about #’s matching components here. This car was built to drive, have fun on the weekends and cruise the local shows… maybe even take home a few trophies. The paint is a professionally applied, basecoat/ clearcoat in Azure Blue (which is the original color of this car), with black Yenko / SC vinyl stripe kit. The car was color sanded and buffed, new emblems/ insignias, new bumpers, tail light lenses and housings as well as tail lamp wiring harness/ socket assemblies and cowl hood were added as well as new American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with new Remington Radial tires. It turned out beautiful and the car is about 98% done. This car was built to be a VERY nice driver and it is! Though, someone could take it to the next level very easily by finishing the Yenko conversion with such items such as larger diameter sway bars and a 12- bolt rear differential. INTERIOR: The interior has been restored, including new seat upholstery, seat buns and backs, new seat belts, new headliner, carpet, dash pad, door panels, arm rest pads, handles and cranks, steering wheel, sill plates, sYc insignias on seats and Hurst performance shifter. The fuel gauge works though it appear to be stuck at ½ a tank, interior lights, turn signals and wipers work as well, speedometer is not correct due to 15”wheels. There is a later model tilt steering column in the car which has cruise control, though it is not functional. No A/C but was a factory A/C car and the heater is connected and it does blow hot. The radio in the car does not work and is an old school style cassette player. DRIVELINE: The engine is a 468 ci Big Block Chevy, said to have been professionally built, balanced and blueprinted about 1800 miles ago and it sounds great. It’s very healthy as you can hear and see in the videos. I am disclosing that the engine and transmission were already in the car when we got it and I have no documentation for the rebuild of the engine. It’s a VERY healthy car and features such items such as: Edelbrock 4v carburetor, Edelbrock Torquer II intake manifold, Comp Cams camshaft (unknown lift/ duration but it’s over .500 lift for sure), HEI distributor, Cal Customs polished aluminum / finned valve covers, chrome pulleys, newer radiator, water pump and of course all new belts, hoses and power steering pressure hoses. You can see how it lifts the front of the car in the videos and breaking the tires loose is almost too easy. The 4spd transmission was also said to have been rebuilt and shifting duties are done by a Hurst performance shifter assembly. A heavy duty clutch is also in the car, with about low mileage on all components. It will grab gears with authority! The rear end is the original 10-bolt open differential. It’s holding up to the power just fine, but to be a true Yenko clone it should be a 12-bolt posi. But, it’s a nice strong, well built and awesome driving car. Other improvements include custom aluminized 3” dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers/ dumps, a new brake master cylinder and chrome/ polished engine dress up items. TRUNK/ FLOOR PANS…ETC: As previously mentioned the car was basically rust free before it was freshened up. The only trouble spot seemed to be the floor pan due to what could have been a leaky heater core. This was replaced with a full, reproduction floor pan, not patched! Other than that, there is no trace of rust on this car that we could find. Let me state this as a disclaimer of full disclosure: This is not a rotisserie built, nut and bolt, frame off or body off restored show car. This car was built to drive and to be enjoyed on the weekends. Any ideas that this car will be unloaded and be immaculate as new and flawless, you’ll likely be disappointed. It is about 98% completed. Yes its beautiful and could happily be enjoyed as is. But there are still a few things to “tinker” with such as: installing a 12- bolt rear end, getting a good sounding stereo system in the car (unless you just like the sound of humming Flowmasters), install new window felts, some additional detailing… little things here and there such as that. You should expect things such as this in a nice weekend driver. The car looks beautiful and was meant to be driven on the weekends and hopefully someone will get a lot of pleasure from owning this beautiful car. I’ve spent more time actually detailing the car and photographing it than I have driving it. BID TO WIN!!!
