Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1986 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL Turbo Diesel. This is the 6 cylinder in-line 3.0L turbo engine. The car has 277K miles on it. The engine was replaced by MB early on due to a design flaw and a factory recall on this model engine. The car originally came from Florida and has spent the past few years here in SC. I bought it 3 years ago from a man in SC who lives locally and drove it regularly - so no nasty winters for this vehicle. I average 350 miles per week in the car and my MPG vary going as little as 26 mpg and as high as 33 mpg. The only time I have reached 33 mpg is when driving non-stop on long trips and the cruise control set at 60mph. Otherwise I typically get 26-28 mpg. The car would be an excellent candidate for veggie oil conversion - I have never done this and only use straight diesel. I have recently replaced the glow plugs, the copper O-rings at the injector pumps, intake gasket, brakes and dash lights. I have been using synthetic oil for oil changes, lastly the ignition had a stuck tumbler lock and as a result I replaced the ignition so the door key and ignition key are now different. The interior is awesome. The leather seats have no rips or tears. The dash pad has some cracks but is not faded - cost to buy a new dash pad is less than $100, the windshield is cracked - I bought it this way and as the crack didn't leak or affect driving vision I never replaced it. Quoted cost of $197.00 for a new windshield. The window tint is all in good condition and still black (none of the purple fade). Does not smoke, burn or leak. A/C and Heat work - only issue is that they only work out of the defrost vent and the side vents, the only other oddity is you turn the A/C or Heat on and nothing happens - if you tap the brake pedal it works. My mechanic said it was something to do with a bad resistor under the climate control panel. The windows all work with the exception of the rear passenger window, the motor on it works fine, the plastic clip that attaches the window arm to the motor arm is broken cost to fix is $65.00. The sunroof has never worked since I have owned it - I do not know why or what the fix or cost to fix is. The parking brake cable is broken, new cable runs $14.00. The engine runs like a dream, none of the rattling and broken motor mounts that are typical for the MB diesels. The turbo works great and you can here it whistle. Speakers aren't the best and could do with a replacement, stereo is a Sony Explod that was installed earlier this year. All around this is the best car I have ever owned. I am moving to Alaska for work and the climate and just the cost to move the car is not a good fit hence I am selling her. The reserve price is less than the Buy It Now price.
