Vehicle Detail

This is one of the first slash 6 Airheads produced, manufactured in 4/74, totally restored and ready to enjoy. Both frame stamp and the steering stem bmw plaque show the VIN. Note that title is not an issue as Alabama did not begin using titles on any vehicles until 1975. Purchase will be documented with a bill of sale, and copy of my current 2010 licensed registration. Your DOMV should show this fact, but do check. It has new headers and exhaust pipes, black diamond valves, cables, rings, tires, (Bridestone Accolades that match the original RB tread pattern) sealed Wesco battery, with almost complete polished stainless hardware. Everything, lights, horn, blinkers, speedo, trip meter, tach, etc work with a solid feel to the thumb controls on both handlebars. Carbs done. Tank is rust free, and sealed (and I prefer this sport tank to the large one) Brakes and master cylinder rebuilt with a stainless brake line. Original Weinmann rims and spokes, balanced and true, not re-laced. Note the front tire is 3.5 X 19 as the 3.25 Accolade was no longer available when this R90 came together. I watched my friend, Ed, build this bike about three or four years ago. Ed has done at least twenty airheads since I met him, and this one, like most of his collection, got completed, and placed in line of beemers, covered, without gas or brake fluid. I got this bike as partial payment on a trade because he wanted my slash 2 rolling chassis. Otherwise he would never sell it. And he was running out of room with 15 plus beemers, and several Guzzi's. It is smooth riding, and we think almost as quick as my 78 R100. It has a few hours riding on it now; enough to know the rings are seating properly, everything is adjusted and ready to go. Paint is base coat, clear coat, with the side decals under the clear so they will not show nicks. The only cosmetic flaw is shown in one pic on the right front lower seat cover. Otherwise, this is about as nice of an original seat as one can find that still shows the BMW logo on the back. I put some new shiny footpegs I had on it, with bmw square rubbers, and added some stainless hardware. If I were to keep it, I would go ahead and spend about fifty or so (see the bolt guy on www) to complete all hardware as polished ss hardware. See my web page for a red 1976 that I recently completed to see the difference a few pieces make on the final presentation of a bike, as well as a pic of Ed in his shop, and more pics of this bike. Note the 74 had a 14 mm axel but BMW in 75 went to the stronger, 17 mm front axel. This front end has been changed to the 75 front fork sliders, which is safer, and more portable on future changes you may want to make. If you do not have a way to pick it up, or wish not to ride it home, I can deliver free to you within a 150 mile radius of my home zip, 35974. This includes delivering the bike to a shipper if you need. (Shipping costs, pallet, straps, etc are on you) (CONUS only) Otherwise, visit my home, and shop, meet some airhead riders, and talk beemers. Ed said he would be willing to make a bonsai run (east of the Rockies) to deliver the R90 to you for the cost of his gas, depending of his mood at the time. He is a great bmw mechanic, but is as wishy-washy as a teenager. I do not have the room to keep it inside very long, as other bikes await parts and completion. Your purchase will go for more bmw parts, shop supplies, etc. so let's do our part to make our economy go! The reserve is low for a restored airhead. I also have it advertised on the rider's page, and reserve the right to end this auction early. Thank-you for looking, and ride safe. See more at www.umcpastor.com. Please pay with paypal or a USPSMO. Payment is expected within 7 days of purchase, else it gets re-listed. I enjoy my ebay rating, and hope you value yours. On Jun-28-10 at 08:31:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Monday 6/28/10 My family is going camping with the RV. The resorts has wi-fi and I will be checking email, and will be cellular. The wifi is slow, so I will do the best I can to respond timely. And I will be available, of course, when the auction closes. Note my web page above now has a video of the bike running. I decided not to add more still pics. Thanks
