Vehicle Detail

NO RESERVE AUCTION 1957 Chevrolet Apache 3100. A very clean, nearly rust free and quite straight and original Arizona truck, unmolested, never wrecked, never restored. This truck was bought new in Tucson and has been here its entire life. Runs good, drives good, very reliable, daily driver capable. 12 volt electrical system with 1 wire GM alternator. Small block Chevy (probably 283, originally a straight 6), stock compound 4 speed, stock front and rear ends. Lifters like to make a bit of noise if she is not driven regularly, but they always quiet down within a minute and perform flawlessly afterwards and day to day. Fender-well headers currently on it. A very nice job, not butchered. What's new in the last 2,000 miles (or 4 years). Complete brake system including stainless steel hard lines, rubber hoses, all 4 wheel cylinders, front and rear brake shoes, one set front wheel bearings, and I rebuilt the master cylinder. All solid, working as designed, and leak free. New 4 core aluminum radiator with in tank automatic transmission cooler, electric radiator fan, hoses and 160 degree thermostat. Radiator stated to work up to 450 hp with a/c and a/t in the desert. New Edelbrock intake and Holley 600 cfm 4 barrel carb, with no choke. Complete OEM style tail lights and support brackets (original reproduction) are new. Fuel tank sending unit, horse blanket seat cover are new. Column mount tach and underdash gauges. Also included is another pair of used regular rear fenders, very straight and original, and I have both spare tire rear fenders (one is on the truck now), a new reproduction stock style fan shroud, stock reproduction mechanical accelerator linkage, a set of ceramic coated standard style headers (used, need collectors) and a used TH350 w/ converter, flexplate and driveshaft from El Camino. What it needs; Both doors need to be re-skinned. Hinges are good though, as are latches. There is a little rust in the passenger foot well and step (very little) that can be welded up (surrounding metal is strong and solid). And at the bottom rear of both cab corners it needs to have patch panels welded in. (All normal rust area's) Truck goes down the road straight and true with no input needed on flat road. When you hit the brakes it pulls a little at first, then stops straight and true (brakes need adjustment). The suspension is all tight, shocks are good, and the brakes work perfectly and are quite strong for being drums. The steering box and tie rods are in good shape too with no slop. There is no speedometer cable, so I don't know if the speedo head works. The ammeter is the only gauge in the head unit that works. And the water temp gauge is the only auxiliary gauge hooked up. The bed needs at least some if not all of the wood replaced. The original metal strips are all there though. The bed sides are in very good shape for their age. There are some minor small dents, but nothing major. The tailgate is quite decent for its age, it has a little bondo, but it really is not too bad as old tailgates go and is definatly usable. The doghouse is excellent and the firewall is also unmolested. The exception being the inner fenders cut for fenderwell headers. The roof is flawless too. The wiring harness needs to be replaced, and the headlight switch too. Headlights do work, as do the tail lights, and the brake lights work as well. There are no wipers, either vacuum or electric present. No glass is broken, but a couple pieces have bubbles between the layers at the edge. The window regulators work, but they do need tuning as well. New channels and sweeps are needed on the doors too, but the windows go up and down without problem. All in all this truck is very sound and worthy of either a full restoration or modification into a street machine. It would not be very difficult to do either, as it is that solid and original. You can drive it daily as it is or use it as it was intended, as a work truck. We made many trips to the hardware store and to the dump with it, and the only time it caused a problem was when a front wheel bearing gave up, which I knew was bad, but just never got around to replacing. We are planning to move now, and will not have room to keep it where we are headed, so it needs to go to a new home. She has a clean AZ title in our name and has been in my wife's family for 30+ years and in her ex husbands family since new. She is a 53 year old truck and has never been in a major wreck and has never been restored. She is a driver, and I would drive her to NYC and back if I had to. It would just be a slow trip with the compound 4 speed and 4.56 gears in the differential. If you are looking for a nice old truck that is affordable this one is worth a look. There is nothing hiding here under new paint that will come out that you didn't know about, like rust bubbling up through the new paint or major bondo spots cracking and falling out. I have been using and maintaining on this truck for 10 years now, and so what I stated I know to be true. Call Doug at (520) 850-3778 if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.
