DIVORCE SALE, NO RESERVE!! THIS CAR DOES NOT DRIVE! The transmission is TOAST. It will not even move one inch under its own power and MUST BE TOWED. Let me start by stating that this is my FIRST car. I bought it when I was 14 years old, almost 27 years ago. Due to my divorce, all marital items must be sold at auction. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME OFFERS TO END THE AUCTION- IT MUST BE AUCTIONED. This is a 1971 Chevrolet Nova that started out as a base model. It had a 250ci inline-6 with a powerglide automatic trans, power steering, and a rubber mat on the floor instead of carpet. Through the years I have gone through everything, probably multiple times. I will do the best I can do describe each area of the car below. Body- mostly stock appearing. It has had al the side trim holes filled years ago. The paint is still very reasonable for being about 8 years old. It shows normal wear and tear with some minor chips and scratches. There are pictures of some of the more major flaws. This is a solid car, with a small amount of rust just starting around the pass side wheel arch- right where the replacement quarter panel section stopped. Speaking of quarter panels, both rear quarters have had major sections replaced- about 8 years ago. They look good both inside and out. The front fenders are fiberglass, with sections of the original steel fenders attached so that the hood hinges still function like stock. The fenders are fron Unlimited products, and are probably 22 years old. The hood is a 4" cowl, and is about 8 years old, from some company called American Sports Car Design, I believe in North Carolina. Its a very nice hood that uses the stock hinges and latch. I bought it one year at the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona for $400. The windshield is cracked. The side glass has some scuffs to it- not sure how or why but its the same on both sides. The rear windows dont have handles to roll them down but the mechanisms are in there. The upholstery wouldnt allow the handles to stay in place, and I never really cared. The emblems, mirror and some trim has been replaced at one time or another. It all appears decent. The car doesnt have any noteable leaks, but the weather stripping could use a replacement. The rear wheelwells have been mini-tubbed to clear wide tires. The trunk has been zolotoned in black/blue and looks nice. The trunk floor has a few small holes that I never bothered to fix. There is a stock appearing replacement "mat" on the trunk floor. The car has a six point roll bar, installed by Custom Fab and Race Cars in New Port Richey Florida about 20 years ago. There are no front inner wheelwells. I havent run them for years and years. Engine- Its a 355 (.030 over 350) from a 69 Camaro - or so I was told. Ive been running this block since I was about 18 years old. Its a 2 bolt main. Last rebuild was about 8 years ago, and its probably got 10k on it. It runs great, and leaks a little oil- I think from the pan. Its got a Scat cast steel crank- almost 10 years old, rebuilt rods with performance bolts, and TRW Forged flat top pistons with four eyebrows. Its got ARP main bolts, and a high volume pump. The pan I think is a Moroso, and its a deep sump with side kick-outs for extra clearance. Its got a mini-starter- dont remember what brand. The heads are World Sportsman 2's, cast iron. I think they are 69cc chambers- started as 64cc but reworked by Summit Racing engine shop. They have 2.055" intakes and 1.6" exhaust valves. Thecam is a Edelbrock performer RPM with hydraulic lifters and matching springs. The chrome valve covers and air cleaner could use replaced as they are about 25 years old and show some mild rust. The headers are ceramic coated, and are rusty on the bottoms from years of use. The rest of the exhaust is a Flowmaster system that has the transvers single muffler, and is 2.5 inch diameter. The distributor is an Accel electronic, and theres an MSD box and a MSD blaster coil. The intake is an Edelbrock Victor Jr, and theres a Holley 750 double pumper on top. No working choke. Most all lines in the car are braided stainless. The stock gas tank has a sump and welded bungs for the lines to exit. 1/2 inch aluminum line is run from front to rear. The Radiator is a HOWE aluminum with an electric fan from a late 80's TransAM. It has never had any cooling problems. As a matter of fact, years ago the fan motor went out miles from home. At every traffic light I shut the engine off. When the light turned green I would start it up and drive again. It never even got hot, all the way home with no fan running. Transmission- this car has run a 2004r overdrive automatic for years. The current transmission has good clutches and bands, and many other upgrades including a shift kit. I built this trans myself many years ago. 8 years ago, I overheated the second gear band and lost second gear. Shortly after, the 10inch TCI lock-up converter broke internally. This caused the pump to fail. The shifter is a B&M Quicksilver. I put in a new pump and many new internals trying to fix the trans and had it in and out about 10 times trying to make it drive again before I found the failed converter. The tranny case is literally worn out from tearing it apart so many times. The last time it drove it still didnt work right, and just stopped driving the wheels one day as I coasted to a stop. It makes a loud clicking noise that I have no desire to fix. My guess is that something came apart- and this tranny just needs to be replaced. I WOULD NOT REBUILD THIS CASE- but you may be able to reuse many of the nearly new internals- like clutches, plates, boost valve, reverse valve, shift kit, etc. Rear end- Its got a 9" Ford from a Lincoln Versailles- Yup- rear disc brakes. Sorry- no parking brake is working. Its got shortened 28 spline Ford axles, and a 3.55:1 ratio open (non-posi) chunk. The rear brake hoses are braided stainless. It likes to wear out the passenger wheel bearing every few years. It might be time to replace it. It doesnt wobble, it just starts to get loud. Front brakes are stock disc's, and the master is from a mid 90's S-10, manual brakes. They work just fine, and I have never wanted them to be power. This car came stock with four wheel manual drums. The front coil springs have been replaced with new 6cyl springs that were trimmed slightly to lower the car. The rear mono leafs were replaced with multi leafs years ago. There are small wedge blocks to lower the rear and correct the pinion angle. The rear also has home-made traction bars. They are like the good kind- and replace the lower spring plate and mount the lower end of the shocks. With these bars and an open diff- it usually leaves posi marks. The power steering box leaks, probably a bottle per week. Its the box, not the pump. There is no excessive steering play otherwise. The car drives nice. Interior- Vinyl/velour custom done YEARS ago. It still shows well. Seats and door panels have a Nova script in them. The front seats are really from a Geo Metro, the back seat is stock/modified to clear the wheel tubs. The carpet is ACC dark blue cut pile and is very nice. Its about 8 years old also. The dash is a stock pad that has been covered in black vinyl. It could use some attention to make it fit better. There is an under dash AC unit- that I tried to install incorporating as many stock vents and pieces as I could. The stock controls run the system, but one lever/knob has broken. I have a replacement set to go with the car. The compressor needs better brackets to hold it to the engine because it likes to throw the belt. Otherwise, it was working. There are no sun visors but the headliner is nice- it was replaced about 10 years ago. There is an old CD player in the dash and some speakers in the doors. Nothing fancy or great. There is keyless entry but only the drivers door has a lock solenoid- so its the only door that locks/unlocks remotely. The remote also pops the trunk lid. The battery has been relocated to the trunk. There is a spare tire on a Wheel vintiques Chevy Rally wheel with dual bolt pattern so it can be used front or rear. The wheels are modified GM rally wheels. The fronts are 15x4's, made by using GM centers with Volkswagen hoops. The rears are custom offset 15x8's with dual bolt pattern's (ford and chevy) from Wheel Vintiques. The center caps are in OK shape. The tires are 165/15's front with decent tread, and the rear tires are 295/50-15's THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE. There will be 235/60-15's with good tread installed on the pictured rims for the sale. The 295's are not my tires, and will be swapped out for the sale before you take posession of the car. The car has a clear Florida Title in my name. On Jun-13-10 at 07:16:07 PDT, seller added the following information: The gas tank is stock, with a sump welded to the bottom and -8 AN fittings with braided line attaching to the 1/2 aluminum line that goes forward to a Holley(?) high volume mechanical fuel pump. I will try to get a picture today of the tank and underside. I also remembered- there are Comp Cams 1.52:1 roller tip rocker arms, screw in studs and guidplates. The heads are World Products Sportsman 2's in cast iron. These I believe these were the predecessors to Dart heads. They have a thick deck for use in supercharged/turbo/nitrous applications. These have 200cc intake runners, and were supposedly mildly ported by Summit Racings Engine shop. I bought these heads brand new about 15 years ago directly from Summit, and atthe time they claimed that they greatly increased the exhaust flow to match the superior (at the time) intake flow. Included are trunk shots, rear end shots, inside quarter panel shots, gas tank sump shots, etc. If there is something you want to see just ask and I will get pics up asap. On Jun-17-10 at 12:31:01 PDT, seller added the following information: MORE PICTURES ARE HERE: http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh295/SBNova1/1971%20Chevrolet%20Nova/ ^^^CLICK THE PHOTOBUCKET LINK ABOVE^^^ The wires hanging under the dash on the drivers side are for the fog lights. I never installed the switch after changing the dash unit from a non-A/C dash to a factory A/C dash- I just couldnt get myself to cut a hole in it. There are some other wires under the center of the dash for the converter lockup switch- which is not connected. The switch used to be in the shifter base, in case I did not want the converter to lock. The factory wiring is in great shape with no issues. The alternator is an 80 amp one-wire aftermarket. The car starts, runs and charges the battery as normal. The headlights were replaced years ago with H4 units that are brighter than stock. These are the kind that you change the bulb from behind like a newer car, while the lense is not replaced. There are speakers in the front doors, there are no other/rear speakers. There is a Carver 4 channel amp in the trunk.
