When's the last time you've even heard of a 1981 Z28 with a 4-speed let alone one in this kind of condition. Did I mention this ultra-rare car has an ultra low 86,632 original miles? No wonder it looks so good and it's no surprise that it drives so spectacular either. This Dark Brown beauty came off the Van Nuys assembly line the last week of January, 1981 factory equipped with just about every option there was. Buyers of these popular Camaros today are hot for items like T-tops, power windows/locks, the extra cost gold cast aluminum wheels and they demand a working air conditioner. This stunning Z28 has all of these important features and a whole lot more. Its low miles shows everywhere you look, from the great paint and straight body to the fantastic interior that sports a tilt wheel, the vinyl-to-cloth upgrade, tinted glass and a killer Kenwood sound system. In the trunk you can see the amp, pre-amp and 6-disc changer and inside, the graphic equalizer looks factory installed under the Kenwood head unit. Upholstery, carpet, door panels all look like new and the best part is, everything works. Turn the key and a 4-barrel small block Chevy comes immediately to life. Except for tune-ups, regular maintenance and the new belts that I put on, this strong engine is just as it left the assembly plant. A 5.0 liter was the only way you could get the rare 4-speed in the U.S. in a 1981 Z28 and the manual transmission allows this potent V8 to run with the big dogs. It's pretty cool too when you stand on it and the solenoid operated Cowl Induction flaps open to bring in cool, dense air from the windshield base. The brakes are strong because they're almost new, steering is tight and the car is free of any annoying shakes or vibrations. It is everything a vintage muscle car should be; it sounds good, looks great and goes fantastic. It's one of those cars that you just get in and enjoy. Unlike a lot of classic vehicles, this one won't take your entire 401k to buy or own and as an investment, high end Camaros like this have a proven sales record. If you like late 2nd Gen Camaros (and who doesn't) it does not get any better than a highly optioned 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. And, I can promise this; you will never again find one with a T-top and a 4-speed at this condition level, especially with miles this low. 1981 Was the Last Year for the 2nd Generation Body Style (the last of this legendary series and optioned like this Z28, is absolutely the most collectable of the later, soft bumper cars) Dark Brown Paint Shimmers Under the Clouds with the T-Tops Off (gold cast alloy wheels are among a looooong list of options) Is There a More Muscular Look Than This on the Road Today? (is there a 1981 Z28 in better condition than this on any road anywhere?) Spectacular Front Fascia Condition Still Shines, Even Underneath (many of these cars had their front air dam tore off not long after leaving the dealership) This is Why People Like These So Much, The Muscle Car Look is Timeless (I must say, I did a particularly good job with this shot) Less Than One Quarter of All 1981 Camaros Had (RPO CC1) Removable Roof Panels Even Less of Those with the 4-Speed (you probably call them t-tops and it is definitely one of the most desirable features of a 2nd gen f-body) The Optional Gold Alloy Wheels Look Sensational on a Z28 This Sensational (with the t-tops off, this shot really compresses the car's height) A Straight Body and Smooth Soft Trim Give This Z28 a New Car Look You Are Not Going to Believe (the Radial T/A's at the rear are a little bigger 275's, the front tires are 255's - gives it a great stance) The Lights Aren't Faded, the Bumper Covers are Not Wavy & Panel Fit is as it left the Factory The Only Way Great Metal Looks This Great - if it Really is Great Metal (check out that great shiny paint, too) Now remember the car is 30 years old, there's light chips, dings and scratches but nothing distracting as you can see; or can't see. :) Probably More Rare Than a 1981 Z28 With a 4-Speed is One That Escaped the Ravages of Hormone Fueled "Modifications" (an ultra-low 86,632 original miles doesn't hurt either) Power Windows, Power Locks, Tilt, Cruise, Air Conditioning . . . (this Camaro even has RPO BS1 Interior Decor/Quiet Sound package) Great Carpet, Door Panels and Upholstery Make This Cabin a Very Nice Place to Be (this Z28 also benefits from the vinyl-to-cloth seat upgrade) Full Instrumentation and a Very Real 86,631 Original Miles (if you do the math, that's barely 8 miles a day - no wonder this Z28 looks and drives so well) There It is - a 1981 Z28 With a Rare Factory 4-Speed (less than 10% of all 1981 Camaros had a manual transmission and even fewer Z28's were so equipped) Factory Air Conditioner Works Great (just like everything else on this incredible Z28) The Kenwood System in This Car Sounds as Good as This Installation Looks . . . (the graphic equalizer looks factory installed, don't you think?) . . . Amp, Pre-Amp and Subwoofer Can be Seen Here and There's a 6-Disc Changer Not in This Shot (it's a 6-speaker system; these 2 6x9's, 1 in each door and 2 under the dash speaker grille) (LG4) 5.0 Liter V8 Engine 165hp @ 4,000 and 245 lbs.-ft. torque @ 2,400 RPM (this was the only way you could have a 4-speed Z28 in 1981 in the U.S.) Undercarriage Looking Awesome with Everything as it Should Be; If it Just Left the Factory Yesterday. 3.42 Rear Axle and All 4-Shocks Have Helper Springs VIN Decode: 1G1AP87H8BL127891 country of origin 1 USA manufacturer G General Motors division 1 Chevrolet restraint system A non-passive ? model P sport coupe or Z28 sport coupe body style 87 2-door coupe engine H 305/165hp (LG4) check digit 8 matches per NHTSA model year B 1981 assembly plant L Los Angeles/Van Nuys sequential number from this plant 127891 Cowl Tag Decode ??
