Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a 1982 Suzuki RM 250Z motocross bike. I am the second owner and have owned it since 1986. I rode it a few times in ’86 and then placed it in storage where it has been until last August. The bike was properly prepared for storage to ensure everything remained in excellent condition. The bike was stored in my basement, which is warm, dry and smoke-free, so the bike has remained as it was in 1986. The bike runs great and has strong power. It starts easily hot and cold. Everything is tight and operates as it should. The tires are decent and have plenty of miles left on them. The bike has the original kickstand installed as well. The only item missing is the front sprocket cover. The tank has a vinyl tank cover installed. The original decals are missing from the side covers and swing arm and the tank decals are worn and rough. These decals can be purchased from various restoration places that specialize in vintage Suzuki parts. The bike has many new parts including: new kick starter, new folding shift lever, new rear axle assembly, new kill button, new hand grips, new air filter, new drive chain, new upgraded roller-bearing upper and lower chain rollers, new spark plug, new fuel filter and fuel line, a full set of engine gaskets and seals, including crank seals and water pump seals, and newly rebuilt carburetor including new main jet, needle jet, gaskets and o-ring. The crankcase screws have all been replaced with a new set of stainless steel allen-head bolts for easier maintenance and a better look. The new parts alone total well over $500. The coolant and crankcase oil have also been drained and replaced with new. The rear shock oil has been drained and the shock flushed clean and refilled with fresh shock oil. This bike is an original, ready to ride vintage motocross bike that would be great for vintage motocross racing or weekend fun riding. It would also make a great candidate for a full restoration. Also included is a partially-complete ’82 parts bike that was purchased in 1983. We bought it from a guy that took the engine and other mechanicals out for a small sprint cart and then sold the rest to us for parts. We had RM 465’s at the time and needed a few parts from this bike. I believe we used the rear shock and maybe a few other smaller parts. This parts bike is very nice with only a season of riding time on it and it shows. The frame is all original as is the front and rear suspensions. The plastic on this bike is a mix of original and aftermarket, but it’s all there, except for the radiator shrouds. The pictures give you a pretty good idea of everything that included on the parts bike and what’s missing too. If you don’t see it in the pictures, it’s not there. Some of the better stuff from the parts bike has been installed on the complete bike, like the pipe and silencer and some of the plastic. I also have some additional extras included with this purchase. I have a new, in-the-package Answer Products seat cover for the bike as well as three used, but nice knobby tires. One is a front tire and the other two are rear tires. Also included is a nice set of publications that will be invaluable to anyone that owns this bike. Included are: - The original Suzuki owners/maintenance manual specific to this bike - An original Suzuki parts manual with parts numbers and exploded views of every component also specific to this bike - A brand new, 300-page Clymer repair manual - A packaged copy of the original 1982 RM 250Z test report outlining how terrific this particular bike was and many think still is today.
