Vehicle Detail
Last year for this classic model. 239k mi. on very clean in-line 6-cyl 4.0 Litre EFI, 60k mi. on rebuilt 4-speed automatic transmission. Selectable 4WD, locking front hubs, power windows, power steering, power brakes, power mirrors, A/C, Sony/Infinity, Michelin. Good running condition. Needs rear brakes, transmission seal, A/C pump. Custom third row seat (removable) by TLC. Full set of photos: http://s297.photobucket.com/albums/mm224/vdarkbloom_photos/1989%20Toyota%20Landcruiser/?albumview=slideshow Additional info: We are the 2nd owners, had it since '99 and have averaged about 10k mi. per year on it, split between highway and surface streets, never off-roaded by us, or in its life to our knowledge. The car has stayed in SoCal its entirety (first owner is in Santa Monica), with an occasional foray up to the Sierras or out to Joshua Tree. It's been pampered and never smoked in. No modifications, with the exception of the TLC 3rd row seat (that's in storage right now, and I'd throw it in if you want, otherwise I have someone who wants to buy it). The only work done on the engine aside from oil changes and tune-ups is the battery, starter, thermostat, water pump, belts and hoses have all been recently replaced. Engine runs smooth and cool. It's got a K&N air filter, which helps a bit on mileage (but the mileage is what you'd expect for a car of this type- 12-14 range, depending on driving style). Rear shocks and front disc brakes have both been replaced recently as well. Rear brakes still have a bit of life in them, but will need replacing soon. We had the trans rebuilt around 60k miles ago, and it shifts fine; the transmission seal needs replacing (why they didn't do that at the time is beyond me!), so it does have a fairly noticeable transmission fluid leak- we typically just keep an eye on the level, but that should eventually be replaced. The other items to address are the A/C pump, which I was told needs replacing, the heater fan is stuck but probably just needs cleaning (happened once before). Windshield washer pump is non-functional. The body and paint are very clean for a 21-year-old 'cruiser, with just a few slight dents here and there. It has a brand-new windshield (gravel chip had started a crack). There was a bit of rust along the rain gutters, but that was cleaned up and treated with CorroSeal and professionally sprayed and buffed out to match. The front bumper recently had a low-speed encounter with another car at a hateful camera-controlled intersection, but was the only thing damaged (see photos). The interior is also very clean, with only a couple small tears on the edge of the driver's seat, the left-side rear passenger's armrest has a tear, and there's a thin crack on the dashboard, which we've treated with silicon (photos). Lastly, one of the door speakers has come loose and needs reattaching (and a speaker grille replaced). We'd love to hold onto this 'cruiser, as it's been a joy to own, but it's a luxury to keep it at this point, since we have two other cars... Local pick-up or transport at buyer's cost only. Added note (5/17/10): With regard to the published Vehicle History: upon closer inspection, the DMV notes that the vehicle was leased in 2000, but this is not correct- we purchased it outright from the previous owner in Sept. '99 (and the pink slip bears this out), so I think this is likely just a mix-up on the part of the DMV- wouldn't be the first time. They also show it as a one-owner vehicle, when in fact it has had two owners. Lastly, the smog certification failure in '02 was due to the engine timing having been set incorrectly- no smog system components were faulty or have ever been replaced to our knowledge.
