Vehicle Detail
For sale: 1959 Bentley S2 in very beautiful and timeless sand over sable color. This car has a very rare and interesting history. It is one of the very first V8 endowed S2 Bentleys to roll out of the Crewe plant, but from what I can surmise of the records of the vehicle, it was built specifically for W. M. Coupe of the Coupe Foundry located in Preston on the west coast of Britain, and sold at the prestigious Jack Barclay Ltd. Bentley dealership in downtown London. In 1975 the car was imported to Dyersburg, TN where it was entered into the Rolls Royce Owners Club database. Around 10 or 15 years later the car was purchased by a well known local business owner in Syracuse, NY. This gentleman loved and cherished the car for many years and it shows. As he aged he was unable to drive the car, but he still had it regularly maintained and started up until the time of his passing about 10 years ago. After his passing this Bentley sat largely untouched, except to be occasionally started and driven around the block by a mechanic every year or so. Because of this constant usage there isn't much mechanically that the car needs. When I acquired it I purged the tank and lines and filled it with some fresh gas. I also cleaned and gapped the points, and gave the battery a good charge. The car started right up with no drama! It runs smooth and strong. There is a light tapping noise that I have been told is probably a bad hydraulic lifter, or an exhaust leak but I have not investigated. The transmission shifts silently, smoothly, and the fluid appears clean, but I have not driven the car any great distance due to the fact that the brakes work only on the rear left wheel. I have receipts that show that the entire brake system was replaced right before the car was parked, and it is still holding fluid so I think that it may not need to be totally replaced again. In either event it has new shoes, springs, master cylinder and drums. Everything on this car works from the modern and well installed A/C unit utilizing R134A to the brake lights, turn signals, electrically actuated fuel filler door, interior dome, trunk cargo light, rear vanity mirror lights and original Lucas fluted sealed beam headlights. The only non functioning item I have found is the Amp gauge. As you can see in the pictures, the car has been converted to a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II by the addition of a RR grill and RR gauges. The Bentley hubcaps are still in good condition. The car has a light amount of rust just forward of the rear wheels and a couple of pinholes in the rocker on the passenger side, as seen in the photos, but that is the only location. The frame, and body mounts are in excellent condition, as are the rear fenders and trunk. This Bentley was repainted with poor prepping at probably the same time that the RR conversion was completed because the hood being painted sand color is not correct for a Bentley. The great news about the paint is that because it is already peeling off around most trim pieces and windows, it can easily be removed. I had it looked at by the best local paint and body shop, and they said that the paint was actually perfect because it would pretty much fall off the car when stripper was applied to it, cutting way down on the cost of a repaint. The interior is mostly in need of a new carpet set. I have cleaned the leather to the best of my ability and it looks pretty decent for it's age. The front hide is still supple and not cracked while the rear hide shows some cracking but no rips or burns or splits anywhere. The wood is all original and all there, nothing is missing. The wood on the dash is in good condition, the wood on the front doors is salvageable, the rear doors aren't bad, and the tray tables are in excellent condition. On May-31-10 at 13:55:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Additionally: The car has fiberglass front fenders which are high quality exacting duplicates, and if it wasn't for the light damage on the drivers side fender I never would have noticed they were not steel, the damage that is there is easily fixed by any body shop because it is fiberglass. And, this car has a LOW RESERVE!
