This 1972 Volkswagen Karman Ghia was acquired from an acquaintance Jack Friolo who moved to Florida and did not wish to transport his car there. I planned to restore the car in the two months leading up to my wife’s 50th birthday as a gift to her. Unfortunately the project was greater than my skills and I threw her a big party instead. A physician, Jack explained, owned the car for ten years prior to his ownership and then he owned the car another ten years. He stated the car was garaged all that time and only part of the front or back was exposed due to the dimensions of the garage. He ran the car up until a year ago when he garaged it before his move. The car was transported to my mechanic’s garage where it now lies parked. It has some rust in all the usual places, fenders, engine and trunk but not in the floors or rockers. All parts, mechanical, interior, roof etc appear to be complete and the car sports an auto stick which appealed to me as my two sons find a manual transmission too distracting when they drive and text at the same time. The car is located on Staten Island and is ready for restoration. The car will need some work but the autostick and the convertible top make this a desirable project to complete and a valuable classic when the job is done.
