About Me | See my other items | Email A Friend Description of [1966 BMW R69S - Vintage BMW Motorcycle For Sale] For sale a 1966 BMW R69S owned by one owner since 1987. Bike is all numbers matching and comes with a Sport Tank, Denfeld Solo Seat, Euro bars. The engine and transmission has stamps JS and S all over I guess for solo use. Cycle has 42,005 original miles on the clock. The Engine has been overhauled in 1987 and the bike was only used for 500 miles since just for local parades. The slingers were cleaned and heads converted to use unleaded fuel. Work has been performed at Rob Kiviat "RK BMW" in Deptford N.J. ($2000 cost). Bike runs steady and rides smooth as glass. Clean and Clear title in hand. Note from BMW Archives, "The BMW R 69 S VIN 659XXX was manufactured on November 20th, 1964 and delivered on November 24th, 1964 to the BMW importer Drenowatz in Zürich. The bike was equipped with a bench seat". Very common procedure in 1955-69 was that the dealer would assign dates to BMW motorcycles when they sold them, and not necessarily when they were manufactured. From 1955 to 1969, 15,347 of these 594 cc shaft-drive, opposed twin motorcycles were built. The 35 hp (26 kW) R69 was produced from 1955 to 1960, the 42 hp (31 kW) R69S was produced from 1960 to 1969, and the 42 hp R69US was produced from 1968 to 1969. These models were designed as relatively high powered, high compression sport bikes, although the Earles forks R69 and R69S came with sidecar lugs installed on the frames. These lugs were deleted from the telescopic fork "US" models. The low compression 30 hp (22 kW) R60/2, produced from 1955 to 1960, was designed primarily for sidecar use, though it was popularly used as a solo bike, along with the 30 hp R60US, which was produced between 1968 and 1969. The sport-oriented R69S, R69US, and R69 succeeded the plunger-framed 1951 to 1955 R68, which had an engine very similar to that in the later R69. ALL BIKES/VEHICLES ARE SOLD AS-IS.
