This Rare Right Hand drive, rally loaded 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 was restored to concourse condition. This Classic Big Healey has the strength of a WaxOyl protected chassis, a lighter body from the aluminum body panels thus saving half the weight of steel panels, and is road rally ready with heavy duty shocks and springs to hug the corners. The drive train is sweet with a full race cam for a very nice power curve, a straight shift racing transmission to apply all the power instantly and a high gear rear end for better off the line performance. Additional oil cooler has been added to run cooler for longer runs. Halogen lights provide better visibility so you don’t need extra lamps. This may very well be the first classic muscle car with disk brakes and this baby takes off like a champ and floats when doing a ton. The cosmetics have been restored to the original high standards of Old English White with black leather interior, soft top, tonneau cover and floor mats. All the leathers are in excellent condition. The original walnut dash is in great shape, and all the body panels and chassis are clean and well kept. The only option for the car has been installed, a MotoLite, wood trimmed, three spoke steering wheel. Originality has been the theme in this restoration, with original parts, no after market add-ons except for over the shoulder seat belts. All the strict California road requirements have been passed. There is a small paint nick behind the left side rear wheel, but at least it proves the body panels are aluminum.. This is a classic Big Healey fully restored and loved across several continents. I have been the longest owner and biggest investor to maintain the beauty of this classic Big Healey. When I found this classic, it was a working roadster that required constant attention, cosmetically and mechanically. I started the restoration almost immediately to get it to a drivable condition and then decided to get it back to it’s hey day of a classic Big Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8. The restoration was completed at 83824 miles. There have been only 6998 miles since then, to bring it up to the current 90822 original miles. These are not “turn over” miles. This classic has been treated to a first class restoration by the original manufacturing staff at “JME The Leaders in Austin Healey Restoration” in Leamington Spa where the Healey factory was located. See more at www.JMEhealeys.co.uk under “Total Restoration”. Additional components were added to bring this baby up to rally race ready. The internal chassis was completely coated in WaxOyl. www.jrclassics.co.uk/procedure.html The engine has been fitted with a full race cam. The transmission has been updated with straight line racing gears to apply all the power quickly. The rear end has been fitted with a high gear ratio for quick off the line power. The suspension and rear axle have been treated to heavy duty rear leaf and front springs and shocks. The car body was reassembled and fitted with aluminum wings. I have added a couple modern touches to the car to make more legal. Over the shoulder seat belts have been added. Further in 2007, the carburetors were rebuilt, piston rings and bearings replaced and the cylinder heads rebuilt to accept unleaded fuel. While we were at it the cooling system and oil cooler were examined, repaired and replaced to accommodate the engine temperatures. With its increased ground clearance, more positive rear axle location and enhanced interior, the Phase 2 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII introduced in May of 1964 became the best and most user friendly of all the 6 cylinder “Big Healeys”. The Phase 2 completed Austin Healey’s evolution from the elemental sports car that was the 4 cylinder Bn1 into a luxurious, comfortable convertible suited for high speed, long distance driving in the grand touring manner. This 1964 was built in the first of the three year production cycle and is a beautiful example of a restored Mark III. The wheels have been maintained in their gray painted form which was standard on the car at the time and has black wall tires. The aftermarket MotoLite wood trim three-spoke steering wheel is the only option added to the car. It comes completely equipped with matching wire spare wheel and tire, tonneau cover, top boot and original tools including the original jack and wheel hammer for the wing nuts, along with octagonal wheel nuts and lever. The car is in great shape and ready for its next adventure. Overall, this is the perfect car for the Healey lover looking for a strong drive that looks great! It has been lovingly restored to make a great driver, and wants to be driven hard, if you can handle it.
