Vehicle Detail

Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a 1967 Austin Healey Sprite Mk III with a 1275 CC engine, new British racing green paint and interior upholstery. This Healey is a lot of fun to drive and gets lots of attention every where it goes. I bought this car last year from a gentleman who had owned it for 14 years, reportedly having purchased it from the original owner. The prior owner did a lot of recent work to this Healey including: New paint in 2009; New sport wheels and new tires; New seat upholstery and carpet kit; New fuel system including Weber down draft carburator with manual choke, fuel tank, electric fuel pump, which is now a Facet type as opposed to the original type; Recent exhaust and front brakes. The odometer reads 58,985 miles. The prior owner represented to me that the mileage is accurate and that he rarely ever drove it. The Massachusetts title I received when I purchased it listed the mileage as accurate. There is an oil change sticker on the driver's door with green paint overspray which records the mileage in 1993 as 56,905. I have only driven the Healey 106 miles since I purchased it last year. I have a clear West Virginia title in my name which lists the mileage as exempt, due to the vehicle's age. The new British racing green paint has great shine and looks nice. I would consider the paint and body work to be of average, driver quality. The new paint is a little lighter in color than the original green. The door jams and under the hood and trunk lid were not repainted. Prior to paint, this Healey apparently had rust repaired and light accident damage repaired. The average person who looks at this car, would not notice that prior body work had been done. The hood was replaced with a used one (the underside of the hood is yellow), the driver's side floor pan was patched due to rust, the driver's side rear fender appears to have body filler around the wheel opening lip, and there appears to body filler in the lower areas of both rear fenders. The lower rear fender area paint has that rock chip texture. The rear panel appears to have body filler between the tail lights, apparently due to prior accident damage. The front grill is slightly bent. All chrome is of driver quality and the rubber weather seals are showing their age. The Healey drives nicely, tracks straight and stops straight. This Healey starts and runs well and sounds great with the performance muffler, but its not too loud. At operating temperature of about 180 degrees, the oil pressure gauge reads about 35 lbs. The engine does not smoke. It does not have any major fluid leaks, but it will leave oil spots on the garage floor from the engine and transmission area. The four speed transmission shifts well through all the gears and the clutch works well. This transmission does not have a synchromesh for the first gear so you have to be completely stopped to put it into first gear. The seat upholstery was apparently installed without replacing the seat foam, so it doesn't fit as nice as it probably should. I tore the new convertible top by trying to force the top mechanism down into the boot further than it was designed to go. It keeps the rain off the driver, but should be replaced if you will rely on it to keep the weather out of the cockpit. Victoria British Motors lists a convertible top for as low as $239. A hard top with latches, a tonneau cover, a new car cover, the original wheels and hubcaps and a spare tire and rim are included. The Healey was state inspected last year and I included a copy of the inspection report. The inspection sticker expires next month. The windshield washer pump, high beam head lights and reverse lights are not working. The heater control cable is stuck, so the heater is not working. The new sport wheels are wider than the originals and they do rub when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the right or left. I bought this car on a whim last year and had hoped that I would be able to interest my wife in taking country drives with me. You know the rest of the story, so it has to go. I have never owned or driven a British car before, so I am no expert and I am sure that my ignorance is showing with this posting. I would consider this to be a driver quality car and not a show car. If you are expecting a show car or a "survivor" or "time capsule" car, this is not the car for you. This car is being sold as is and with all faults and with no warranties of any kind. $500.00 is due within 72 hours of the auction close and the balance is due within seven days of the auction close. The title and the car will not be released until I have funds in my possession which have been verified by my bank. The Healey is located in Morgantown, West Virginia which is 60 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pa.
