Vehicle Detail
1981 Toyota Celica Supra Mk1 Loaded, 5-Spd, California Car PLEASE NOTE: This car is not running at this time. The odometer has only 5 places and mileage cannot be verified. According to state records, this car was recorded as having under 30,000 actual miles in 1997, then it was parked in 1999 with an odometer reading of 37830 miles. It is being offered As-Is. See below for details... This 1981 Toyota Supra is in very restorable condition. It does have some damage from the sun, but has no rust. It is located in Southern California in a humidity-free desert environment. This car is solid and bone stock. It has the 2.8L 6-cylinder engine with a 5-speed transmission and has the following factory options: AM FM radio, cassette player with equalizer, cruise control, rear cargo cover (roll-up), full size spare with alloy wheel, tachometer, cloth seats, locking gas cap, tilt wheel, AC, power windows, power brakes, power steering, clock, center console, dual side mirrors, alloy wheels, rear wiper, and power locks. This car is a true barn find and deserves to be restored to the way it used to be. The reserve is lower then the last time we listed the car. Please read on for more details: Engine: This car is equipped with the 2.8L six cylinder engine. It was running when parked. It will not start at this time due to a couple worn wires at the distributor. We don't have any other details regarding its performance when running, other than it ran well. Transmission: The 5-speed transmission was said to pop out of gear in 4th and 5th. This was the reason for it being parked (and forgotten!). It will no doubt need a rebuild or replacement. We may have an extra transmission that can be included if the reserve price is met. Body: The paint is faded from the intense sun in our area but solid as a rock. There is a funny white "spatter" on the roof and hood that appears to be oxidizing primer that is exposed. This is cosmetic and not holes or anything in the metal. There is a scrape of the passenger door and a much smaller scrape on the passenger side quarter panel (see pix), and some scattered dings here and there. No major damage. There is some paint discoloration on the drivers door and into the quarter panel that may have been a touch-up paint job from a long time ago. The bumper covers have some sun fade. No rust top or bottom. Shock towers, door sills, trunk are all clean. The rear window seal is dried out and may leak. All glass is OK. Light lenses are in nice shape. Interior: The inside has suffered the most from the merciless sun. There is obvious fade of carpet and seats in several areas. Pix show the biggest problem spots. The drivers seat upholstery is so brittle from the sun that is is crumbling. The rear plastic cover for the rear wiper motor is falling apart. The tie-down straps in the hatch area is discolored and brittle. The dash is cracked virtually in half. The steering wheel shows some small cracks and discoloration. The door cards are in nice shape, with a couple marks on the passenger side card. The vinyl covering on the rear armrests is coming off. The headliner is in nice condition but brittle. Suspension/Wheels: Everything seems tight and is rust-free. The steering is firm. The alloy wheels have the clearcoat peeling but look pretty good underneath that. The front two center caps are missing. Tires are brand new but 11 years old and not to be trusted to extensive driving. The master cylinder is leaking and the brakes do not work. The parking brake works fine. Documentation/Registration: This vehicle is on California Planned Non-Operational registration and was put in this status and parked on March 12, 1999. This Supra has been parked since 1999. Visit this link for more info from the DMV regarding Non-Op registration: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffvr01.htm . What this amounts to is that in the state of California, if you decide to park your vehicle and not renew regular yearly registration, you are still taxed for the parked car. No DMV fees are owed on this car. In order to register the car for normal operation, the following fees must be paid (only in the state of California): $15 transfer fee, $71 registration, 7.75 - 10% sales tax and approximately $19 duplicate title fee. For out-of-state buyers, please consult your DMV for registration fees. The title is misplaced but we have Reg. 227, Duplicate Title Form, signed, notorized, clear and open. All paperwork is in order. This is a great classic Mk1 Celica Supra with a very reasonable reserve. This car is located in Aguanga, California, approximately 2 hours south of Los Angeles and 1 1/2 hours north of San Diego. Please email for an appointment to see. This car is being offered As-Is, with no warranty implied or given. Delivery may be possible for a fee (California, Oregon, Arizona) via open car trailer.
