Vehicle Detail
Re-listing with no reserve. Note that the car is in Canada and, although it would be very easy to bring it into the U.S. because it's over 25 years old and therefore exempt from all the strict vehicle import rules, you should consider the location and obtain shipping/travel info. etc. before you bid. Please don't bid if you're not a serious buyer. This Peugeot was sold new here in Vancouver by a now-defunct Chrysler dealer (note dealer decal on the trunk lid), as Peugeot used Chrysler's distribution network in the Canadian market. It's a low-mileage (128,xxx kms or 77,xxx miles), enthusiast-owned 505 that has been well-maintained throughout its life. The car is in exceptional condition given its age and especially compared to other 505s that I've seen, which are mostly on their last legs. For starters, other than a couple of tiny surface rust spots on the side window surrounds, there is no rust whatsoever on the body or the underside. All glass is good and the rims are in great condition. The paint is original and therefore oxidized in a couple of spots (around the sunroof and centre of the hood). There are the usual dents and scratches here and there but, as you can see from the photos, the car looks great overall and the absence of rust makes it an ideal candidate for a paint job. The tires are very hard-to-find and expensive Michelin TRXs, and they're almost new. The interior is in remarkable shape. The STI was the best-appointed 505 in 1985; even the Turbo did not have leather seats. There are a couple of hairline cracks in the dash that are not noticeable. The rest of the dash is flawless. The seats and the carpet are in amazing condition. The radio/tape-player is original and works. Features include power windows, power locks, power mirrors and heated seats, all of which work. All lights work except for the licence-plate illuminators. The tachometer and digital clock don't work. The sunroof is currently inoperable because it needs a cable; I've taken the cover off and it's sitting in the trunk. I haven't tested the cruise control or the a/c; the fan needs to be replaced which is a very inexpensive repair. My mechanic advises that the original Peugeot fans are prone to failure, so he replaces them with a much more durable American-made unit. I drive the car infrequently, which is why I haven't bothered with the sunroof cable and fan replacement. Lastly, there is the occasional creaking noise coming from the front strut(s) when going over some bumps, which I haven't had inspected yet, but my mechanic says that one or both struts is/are probably worn. That's pretty much it for the negatives. Mechanically, the car runs very well and there are no issues that I'm aware of. It's an underpowered car, so I drive it conservatively with an eye on the econoscope to make sure that I put no pressure on the engine. Recent work includes a rebuilt head, rebuilt starter, recored radiator, new rings and pushrods, new fuel pump, new exhaust and cleaned tank. This rare survivor recently passed emissions and currently has British Columbia collector status and plates (the plates in the photos predate the collector plates). The car is not in showroom condition obviously, but it's one of the nicest 505s around and will make a Peugeot enthusiast very happy. I'd rather not sell, but it's been my weekend car and I just moved within a minute walking distance from work, so it would see almost no use if I were to keep it. I would like to see it go to another Peugeot nut who can preserve the car. I have all the books, recent service records and a 1985 Peugeot North America sales brochure. Please contact me if you need more information. On May-23-10 at 00:54:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I've received several inquiries about this, so I thought I'd clarify: the fan that needs replacing is the heater fan and NOT the radiator cooling fan. The car has no overheating problems whatsoever.
