Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1980 Porsche 924 [Non-Turbo] with approx. 201K original miles. Engine runs well and has approx. 55K on replacement [new] cylinder head; the bottom end has not been rebuilt to my knowledge. Transmission is the Audi 5-speed [not the Porsche Getrag 5-speed, which was known to break or wear out prematurely]. There is some rear axle whine in 5th gear, but I drove it this way for over 50K miles without a problem. I've owned the car since 1996, and it was used as a daily driver from 1996 until 2006. With sufficient time and effort it could be brought back to fully restored condition, as it is mechanically sound, but extensive work is required on the exterior [paint, bodywork] and interior. Or, it could just as easily be used as a parts car, or broken up and parted out; I don't have time to do that, so I'm selling it whole. Enough pictures included to give a fair assessment of overall condition. I made 2 changes to the electrical system - 1) Windows are wired directly to the battery because the circuit and relay stopped working properly. 2) the fuel pump relay was replaced with a hidden toggle switch, which solved two issues - the faulty relay, and additional theft protection. If you live within 50 miles of zip 07405 I can deliver directly, for $1.50/mi. Otherwise you would need to hire a tow truck or flatbed to take it away. Upon request, I have some local towing resources I can recommend. Additional spare parts are available, which can be included in sale - send a message if interested. No warranties stated or implied on this vehicle, it is being sold as-is. Payment options: $100 deposit via Paypal at auction close; Balance in Paypal within 7 days of auction close, or balance in cash on delivery [including delivery fee] or at pickup date. No credit cards, debit cards, bank checks or personal checks. This item is re-listed because of a prior 'buy it now' offer which could not be accepted and is currently under investigation. Buy It Now has been removed as an option, and cash or PayPal the only accepted payments. Additional information, in response to inquiries from the first posting: - I have posted additional pics which detail the condition of the interior and exterior, to give an idea of work required. - I have a Haynes Porsche 924 Repair manual which is included. Has many notes related to prior repairs and service. - the car has not been driven regularly in 4+ years. it did start and run without a problem on 5/10, which was the first time it's been started in appx 2 years. - as with any car that has been sitting for a while, rust and weather are always issues with exhaust systems and brakes. if you work on cars, you know what this means. The brakes work [I could stop the car without a problem, in the driveway] and I could not detect any leaks in the exhaust system, but these are potential maintenance issues which must be looked at/inspected, before using the car daily. - dashboard is extensively cracked, and the plastic control covers for heat and vent control are missing; heater control cable may be stuck, because I remember having to manually move the heater valve under the hood. - the passenger window did not work when I checked it again yesterday, it probably means that the electric motor needs cleaning or replacement. - the seal around the rear window/hatch should be replaced, and the hatch re-aligned to make it seal better. the gas struts for the rear hatch need to be replaced, and are a fairly standard VW Porsche/Audi part. I never bothered to do this and propped it with a 2x4 instead. - the tires should be replaced, they are appx 10 years old and although they still hold air, sidewalls are cracked, and it's not a good idea to run them as-is. - if you have worked on Audi Porsche or VW cars before, none of the above should surprise you, and this car would be a good purchase and experience, it was for me. If you don't work on cars regularly, or aren't that familiar with VW/Porsche/Audi cars, you may find this more of a challenge. Take some time to think about it before making a bid or 'buy it now' purchase. Thanks for reading. Good luck.
