Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1972 Toyota Landcruiser FJ55. This cruiser has had a lot of mechanical work done on it so it is in great driving condition. I removed the old anemic 1F motor and installed a rebuilt 1985 2F "Super Six" approximately 35,000 miles ago. I installed a high performance cam when I rebuilt it, and about 800 miles ago, I installed a new Weber 38 carb (electric choke), a new set of headers, and a Davis Unified Electronic Distributor. I also replaced the three speed transmission with a rebuilt 4-speed tranny and adapted it to the original rebuilt 3-speed transfer case for that super low crawler gear ratio. I had the rear differential rebuilt by Classic Cruisers in Salida, CO 15,000 miles ago. I replaced the brake master cylinder, brake slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder and rear brake cylinders and all corresponding hoses with new units from Cool Cruisers of Texas 800 miles ago. I replaced the front brake drums with a new disc brake kit from PT Cruisers about 10,000 miles ago. The tie rod ends have been replaced and the steering center arm has been rebuilt with new parts. I restored the fuel tank using the POR 15 process after I shook a heavy chain around inside it and soaked it in acid wash three times. I then Marine Cleaned it, treated it with Metal Ready then used the POR-15 US Standard Fuel Tank Sealer after the tank was dried out for a week. This fixed the problem I had of stalling every hundred miles when driving distances. The rear Big 0 tires almost new and the front ones have some tread left on them. I am including most of the parts needed for the rest of the restoration and a lot of spare parts too. I have included new door seals, a new Toyota front license plate holder, a new Toyota rear license plate light unit, and a new headliner from SOR.com. This Cruiser has been a great truck and I am hoping the new owner will continue the restoration process so he/she will have one of the nicest vehicles on the road. The list of what it needs... Bumpers, Some minor body work (primer is bubbling and cracking in spots, see photos). A new paint job. The seats need new upholstery and the doors need new panels cut and upholstered and the sun visors need recovered. I spent a lot of time restoring the floor before I coated it with smooth truck bed liner so that part is done. The Transfer case shifter needs a little fab work done so it fits or a twin stick shifter can be installed instead. The frame is in great shape with minor surface rust and it will be easy to repaint. It's really going to hurt to let this one go but I have to now. I bought this truck in 2003 and drove it from Boise, ID to Denver, CO after it had been parked for ten years. It did fine except for the rust floating around inside the gas tank that plugged the fuel lines every 100 miles. Now I would drive this thing anywhere without a worry. I have had some FJ40's and an FJ60 in my time, but this cruiser is by far my favoriter because it is so unique and they are getting more rare and valuable every day. The NADA value for a restored FJ55 is $21,800 but will fetch much more than that at an auction. Good luck in your bidding!
