This 4-4-2 is a perfect example of how a lucky few enjoyed ground pounding torque and comfort in 1971. Few, because 4-4-2 production was just 7,589 this year and torque - well, let's just say it's a good thing those beautiful Strato-Bucket seats have a headrest. It is also good (sensational, really) that the paint on this Rocket is so spectacular. Show off this paint finish that's probably better than the factory original with some of the best trim and chrome you have ever seen on a restored classic. That's because almost all of it is new and the result is an exterior in absolutely show-stopping condition right down to its smooth rolling windows and flawless lock function. This body-off restoration also includes a mostly new interior (original door and side panels). 4-4-2s were as big on comfort as they were neck snapping acceleration. Air conditioning, (ice cold) tilt wheel, AM/FM stereo, 8-track, (yes, it all works) inside hood lock and even auto-off headlamps set this highly optioned Oldsmobile apart, not only from other muscle cars but from most 4-4-2s. The optional custom sport steering wheel feels as good as it looks. Something else that feels good is the big block rumble that shivers up through the car when you finally turn the key. There simply is no escaping the physics of 455 cubic inches of old school Oldsmobile performance. The dependable brute residing under a fully functional forced air hood has been carefully rebuilt and includes an original W-30 aluminum intake manifold (with correct 407570 casting) and original exhaust manifolds. (also correct) It fires right up and when you move the Hurst His n' Hers shifter into drive, the theoretical trip down muscle car memory lane suddenly becomes an eye widening reality. This is one seriously quick Oldsmobile and a short ride is usually all it takes to understand why the 4-4-2 has such a well earned reputation. With a completely rebuilt drive train, suspension and steering, this 4-4-2 tracks down the road secure with easy power steering and confident power front disc brakes. Brand new Radial T/As are mounted on restored (newly powder coated) optional Super Stock III wheels. Even the matching spare is new and it waits in a trunk that looks like it just came off the assembly line. The undercarriage is no less spectacular and when you see things like the new body mount bushings and bolts, new steering/suspension components, new springs and brand new practically everything else, the solid, drama free driving experience starts to make sense. Where most restorations would replace everything with new, this restoration kept so many important original items, like the original factory red inner front fender wells exclusive to the W-30. The previous owner bought this car over 20 years ago from the original owner and his personal friend of his. He spent extensive time and funds to achieve this high level and quality restoration. He was obligated to sell his pride due to a more pressing financial obligation; not a choice he was very happy about. You can be one of the lucky few that can relive Detroit muscle in its finest incarnation. This 1971 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30 is in the kind of condition every buyer wants to see but almost never does. The W-30 Olds 4-4-2 is One of the Most Revered Names in Muscle Car History The Exterior Bright Work is Nearly Perfect Because Most of it Is Brand New (smooth body sides means good metal underneath) There is Really No Bad Angle to Photograph This Unbelievable Car Because Body and Paint are Both Spectacular (rear sway bar can be seen here - this helped the 4-4-2 handle better than most super-cars of this era) Panel Fit Back Here (and the rest of the car too) is Superb - Exhaust Cut-Outs Were Part of the 4-4-2 Package (this car also has a W-27 aluminum differential cover) The Cameo White Paint is Picture Perfect Over a Solid Body That is Rattle Free and Tight (items like the pricy new wheel lip moldings and glass trim give this ride a crisp, finished look) Front Bumper is Yet Another New Item That Gives This Rare Oldsmobile its Polished, Show Car Appearance (1971 Olds 4-4-2 production was just 7,589) This Sleek Holiday Coupe Was One of the Fastest Oldsmobiles Ever Made (all seals and weatherstripping are new and supple) You Won't Find a Ripple Anywhere or a Hint of Orange-Peel Even From Down Here (those Radial T/As have less than 100 miles on them and there's also a new spare to match the newly powder coated SS III wheels) Perfect Rear Bumper (yes, it's new too) With Perfect Black Trim with a Rear Wing That Looks . . . Perfect! (trunk can be opened via the button in the glove box - the trunk opens and shuts with the new car sound of quality) There is Absolutely Nothing for a Buyer to Object to With This Stunning W-Machine (keep looking, you won't find anything serious wrong but you definitely will find a whole lot that is right) The 4-4-2 Had Lost None of its Mojo in 1971 (this was the last year the 4-4-2 was a separate series and the last of the truly powerful 455s) Rallye-Pac Included Full Instrumentation and a Tic-Tock-Tach (tachometer works beautifully) (other niceties include a sport steering wheel, tilt, AM/FM radio, 8-track player, "Night Watch", inside hood release and an air conditioner that blows ice cold because like everything else, the complete system is brand new) New Carpet, Upholstery and Headliner are Just a Few of the Things That Make This Interior Look (and feel) Brand New Night Watch Was a Seldom Seen Option That Kept the Headlights on for 60 Seconds (the inside hood lock was another convenient factory option) This Loaded 4-4-2 Has a Great Sounding AM/FM Radio and an 8-Track That Works Beautifully This Rebuilt 455 is Probably a Little Stronger Than the 300 Horsepower Original (fully functioning cold air system seals up tight against a ram air hood) Original Red Fender Liners Were Part of the W-30 Package Undercarriage is Detailed to Perfection and Check Out the New Bushings and Suspension/Steering Pieces New Dual Exhaust With the Right Tips Looks Sensational on This Manicured Chassis W-27 Aluminum Differential Cover Looks Awesome and I Also Thought This New Limit Slip Tag Would Look Cool (it's appropriate too since this differential is a posi) Trunk is Perfect and All Five Super Stock III Wheels Have Been Newly Powder Coated and Treated to Fresh Radial T/A Rubber (I thought the new jacking stickers would be awesome too) These Wheels Have Been Restored to Better Than New (center caps are new and each wheel has a lock) This Olds Came With Factory Air Shocks (rear ride height can be adjusted via this standard valve stem next to the fuel fill) It's Real Hard to Fake a 1971 4-4-2 Since It's Right There in the VIN VIN Decode: 344871M143458 division 3 Oldsmobile series 44 4-4-2 body code 87 2-door Holiday coupe model year 1 1971 assembly plant M Lansing, Michigan sequential build for this plant 143458 Cowl Tag Decode (left to right, top to bottom) 71 34487LAN281924 model year 71 1971 division 3 Oldsmobile series 44 4-4-2 body code 87 2-door Holiday coupe assembly plant LAN Lansing, Michigan Fisher Body group/sequence number 281924 sequential body build number during unknown specified period interior trim 937 Parchment/Pearl Vinyl exterior paint 11 11 Cameo White upper/lower (meaning no different color vinyl roof) build month/week 02A February, 1st week, 1971 455 Block Casting 396021F (left) and Stamp 30M380763 (right) Aluminum Intake Manifold With Correct W-30 Casting: 407570 = 1971-72 W-30/no EGR (left) "Ga" Head Casting = 1972 455, all including W-30 (right) Exhaust Manifold Casting 402295 = Cutlass, 4-4-2, W-30, H/O Exhaust Manifold Casting Letter "W" = LH, 1969-74 Cutlass, 4-4-2, W-30, H/O "Z" = RH 1969-72 Cutlass, 4-4-2, W-30, H/O Turbo-Hydramatic 400 Transmission Stamp: 7X 29L104643 Rear Axle Stamp: TCB 018 2 Careful Analysis of Market Conditions Determine Our Reserves Our Premium Vehicles Consistently Exceeds the Condition of Similar Vehicles Found on the Market Our reserve will not be disclosed.
