Vehicle Detail

This Motorcycle has 1,206 original miles on it ( as far as i know ). Accd to the CA title, the Vehicle ID # is PD010XBM201540, and the engine # is PD01E5201544, but i do not believe i have ever checked these #'s on the bike. Here is the story. This is a 1981 Honda XL 500 S, dual purpose, 4 stroke, street legal, enduro, that i bought from the original owner in march of 1992. He told me how he used it for camping, and it had been in storage, in his business building since those camping days. It was purchased by the guy i bought it from - originally - from LeBard and Underwood ( original sticker of that dealer is still on the gas tank ), in Lahabra California, and the owner had this bike at his business, in Huntington Beach, California. The original mileage was maybe 850 original miles (?), it was under 1,000 when i bought it. I had it licensed and drove it, ( abt a total of 450 miles ) in the local San Bernardino mnts., and San Gabriel mnts, and some local street driving, and by 1995 ( or 1996 ? ), i had put the bike away, in the shed, on the north side of our home, in Lakewood, California. I continued with license fees, etc, but finally did a non op registration on it. Tags on the bike show 1997, but it had been put away, before that, as i recall. I have the valid California title, issue date of 3-22-92. When i put this bike away, i put in fresh oil, ran the bike til warm, and drained all the gas, from all the places gas could be. The bike now has 1,206 miles, and these are absolutely original correct miles, original, untampered miles, as far as i know. The bike ran extremely well, when i drove it those approx 450 miles. The only thing wrong when i was driving the bike was that , was i broke the brake light trigger switch ( or wire, trying to remember ??? ), for the brake light, on the hand brake, but everything else worked, and it did not affect braking performance at all, just that the brake light would not come on, if you just used the hand brake. On hauling it out of the Shed ( yesterday ), i see that a rear view mirror - mounting socket - is broken, ( mirror itself not broken). This bike has it's original tires, and you will need to change them before you can drive this motorcycle, as they are certainly 29 yrs old. The tires are Bridgestone 30-23 trail wing-9, front and Bridgestone 460-18 trail wing-8 rear. Everything abt this bike is original factory as far as i know. I did not even brush off the dust, or try to polish the paint, or clean the rims ( yesterday ), but i did clean the tank, front fender ( plastic ) and cleared off the gage bezel ( today ). The bike is being sold as is. You have to arrange your own pick up, i cannot deliver it to anywhere. No guarantees, on anything. I expect it will run quite well, as it ran really nice when put away in 1995 or 1996, but i cannot make any promises or guarantees. This bike has a bunch of original, stickers, like the little ones on the rims, and lots of stamped codes here and there, like on the rims. It had great power, on the road, and was amazingly strong on those San Bernardino / San Gabriel mtn bike trails, the 500 cc engine is a near monster, for climbing power, even at high altitudes. Most of these photos were just taken after i pulled the bike out of the shed (yesterday, the ones with the original dust !!! ) and then i cleaned it just a touch ( today ), and shot a few more photos today, and just added them to the set ( the ones without the original dust ! ). This bike, to my knowledge has never been stored outside, it has always been in a garage, or in a shed. The Ca license # is 7U9997, and that is certainly the original california plate, that came on the vehicle, in the 81 time frame. If you need any more pictures or info, just ask. I need the deposit by 72hrs after the close of the auction. and the remainder of the money within 7 days of auction close. I will keep the bike ( in the back yard ), for up to 30 days, after close of auction, while you arrange shipping. I will sign the title over, whenever you want that. Please double check with the CA DMV, to insure, this bike has non-op status. I'm sure it does, but you can double check, as that will save you a bunch of money, if registering it in CA. As far as i know, except for the bar cushion, and the battery ( not sure if it's in there or if i took it out when i put it away ?) this bike is 100% factory original ( i think it had a new air filter back in 1992 ? ). Any other numbers, or photos you need or information about, just let me know. I reserve the right to cancel bids, from Bidders with low feedback, or other issues. I have 1 original Honda keys, for the bike. I have the valid California title issued on 3-22-92.
