Full whack in this innocuous looking Volvo will leave you slapped in the face wondering what in the hell just happened. This explosion of forward thrust begs the question, why I call it a Volvette instead of Volspace shuttle or Volsaturn-5 rocket. Other than strapping yourself in behind the wheel of this 1984 Volvette 242GT, there really is no way to truly understand this kind of power. Building a brick this quick begins with the fundamental strength of a Chevrolet 4-bolt main block and forms the basis of this remarkable 350. A forged steel crank, powdered metal connecting rods and an aggressive full roller valve train takes all this TPI fuel injected technology and sends it thundering through a drag strip worthy 700R4 transmission. With a TCI 3000 stall converter, red friction clutches and a custom built valve body, launches are so sudden you may have the brief alarming sensation of some part of the car not touching the ground. A custom 2.5-inch aluminized exhaust system features an x-pipe crossover, two stainless 4-inch high-flow cats and a couple of Dyno-Max Super Turbo mufflers. The sound is race car serious. Of course all this screaming violence must get to the pavement and to that end, a stout custom prepared steel drive line is connected to a fully reconditioned 1993 Volvo posi rear axle that is wholly up to the extreme task of withstanding repeated assaults from such a merciless engine. This is no one trick pony either. With something close to 400 horsepower (my conservative guess) of Corvette pandemonium trying to warp the motor mounts, much is required to keep everything where it should be and the vehicle earth bound. Those engine and transmission mounts are polyurethane and the trailing and lower control arms are now boxed and reinforced with new poly bushings installed throughout. The whole business comes down 2-inches courtesy IPD coil springs and the 'Vette-like cornering prowess happens because of a couple of fat IPD sway bars and Koni gas shocks. In keeping with the sleeper intent of this "VetteVo" simple slotted steel wheels with chrome dog dish covers are shod with a set of Pirelli P400 steel belted radials. Car also comes with a full set of Kumho Solus radials (P205/60R15) mounted on 15-inch Volvo GT alloy wheels. The beautiful black body has been stripped clean of any adornments except for an appropriate Corvette crossed flags emblem on the rear deck lid. The Corvette inspired rectangle exhaust tips make sense too and might help explain to someone waiting behind you at a stop light why that little black sedan does NOT sound like a Volvo. And brother let me tell you, unless that person is piloting something with extraordinary performance, he's going to watch your Corvette badge get as small as a pinprick. To accomplish this, simply place the shifter in "D" (LCD dash display will tell you what gear you've selected) and stand on the loud pedal. First gear is a white knuckle experience no matter how many times you do it and second produces a strong chirp and before you can scream in terror "I WANT MY MAMA!" 100 MPH is a long forgotten memory. I don't know how fast it will go but I guarantee it will still be pulling serious Gs deep into triple digit territory. I hope I didn't miss anything and I especially hope I have accurately explained the thrill of so much acceleration. If you get that then you get this car and then you definitely will want to get this car. Besides Looking More Menacing Than Any Volvo, The Great Metal and Outstanding Paint Can be Easily Seen in This Shot this thing will lay waste to all but the absolute fastest cars on the road today Hunkered Down 2-Inches With IPD Coil Springs All the Way Around it's a nice car to drive too with responsive power rack and pinion steering and strong 4-wheel disc brakes Ii is a Volvo, Right? I Can Promise You; No Volvo You Have Ever Seen or Driven, Looks or Drives Like This this is pretty much the view everybody's going to see - right before seeing this image get way small way fast (when you hit the gas) Grille and Headlight Chrome Have Been Replaced and Contribute to an Overall High Level of Fit and Finish it's pretty much standard issue Volvo at first glance except most chrome and identifying badges have been removed Large IPD Sway Bar Can Just be Seen Surrounding the Steering Rack the result is this Volvette handles a lot more like a 'Vette than a Vol(vette) Is It a Sleeper or Can You Tell What This Car Really Is? (Dragon Slayer) (new Volvo center caps with trim rings look great and are perfect for the mission of a car like this) Window Tint is Just Weeks Old (fastest brick in Nevada - or whatever state you live in) Can't Hide Bad Body Work From This Angle (that's because there is no bad body work) From Down Here This Car Begins to Show Its Hand With a Fat IPD Sawy Bar, a Couple of Dyno-Max Mufflers and a Custom 15-Gallon Fuel Cell (you better believe all this serious hardware is very, very necessary) Just an Extremely Clean Volvo 242 GT Right? (until you fire it up - this bad boy absolutely does not sound like a Volvo) 5.7 Liter L98 Almost Looks Like a Factory Installation Corvette Tuned Port Injection, bored .030 over, full roller valve train, 1.5 Comp Cams Roller Rockers, 2.02 heads with 3-angle valve job and hardened seats, Headman Headers (this engine makes possible the repeated humiliation of cocky Camaro/Mustang drivers) and probably half the Corvettes and just about anything else for that matter Lots of Serious Stuff Down Here to Talk About 2.5-inch aluminized exhaust system with X-pipe crossover, 4-inch high flow cats and Dyno-Max Turbo Mufflers remote oil filter can be seen in the upper right and all liquid lines are braided stainless steel Besides the custom fuel cell and fat sway bar you can easily see the high level of quality work performed. everything is wrapped, tucked and buttoned down for a professional look IPD front sway bar is mounted in front of a custom steering rack adapted to allow braided stainless steel pressure lines.
