1992 LEXUS SC400 Restored by California Lexus Dealership Please see slide show below No Leaks Does Not Burn Oil Registered until July 2010 Very fast, smooth ride! Forced to sell immediately since I am relocating! We just got the U-HAUL set-up for delivery this weekend and I really need to sell this car immediately. Please help me out and bid. This car is worth a lot more than my opening bid price (even the parts are worth more!) but I have no choice but to sell it and move right away! Tuesday, April 27th, 1:54 P.M. This is not a "junked" vehicle! It was stolen in Hollywood in 1998 and the engine was replaced by a Lexus Dealer. The actual mileage on the power train is much lower than the odometer reading. It had under 90k on it when the insurance company had to apply for a salvaged title. So, this engine apparently has less than 100,000 miles on it! As you can see from the pictures this car has been well maintained. I bought this stealthy coupé from a fairly well-known Bounty Hunter who's life depended on the flawless operation of this vehicle and it's ability to outrun and outmaneuver bail jumpers vehicles and to deliver the offenders to lockup in style. I've driven it daily since 2007 and it's incredible in many ways- fast, luxurious, loaded with options that really add a touch of class. This is the fully-equipped Gold Emblem model with a sticker price of $41,122 (Quite a lot of money in 1992 but includes power sunroof, spoiler, Nakamichi 8 speaker sound system with a dedicated power amp , leather interior, anti-lock brakes, traction control, 12-disc CD player mounted in the trunk, retracting cup holder, heated seats, dual-function sunroof/moonroof etc). A basic model cost only $37,500 in 1992! It's an incredible sports car. Cars like this are often stolen. I just talked with the Bounty Hunter who I purchased this car from and he explained the "Salvaged" title. The car was stolen in 1998 in Los Angeles by a professional car theft ring. They removed the engine, transmission and windshield. The vehicle was recovered and the bought by the owner of a Lexus Dealer who replaced the power train and windshield at the Lexus dealership with factory parts. They used a newer 1UZ-FE engine and this explains why the OBD test block is on the engine; whereas it was in the cockpit in the 1992 models. I am more impressed with the performance of this car than any other car I've ever owned or driven on a regular basis- including a Maserati, Corvette, Porsche, Saab, Mustang, Cadillac, Jaguar XKE V-12 and so on. The 911S Turbo was certainly quicker of the line but far less comfortable than the Lexus which is an incredibly smooth, powerful ride and is much more comfortable on long trips. The last owner only sold this beautiful machine because he had a "parking problem" and had to sacrifice one of his vehicles. By the way, this is the first car I've ever sold online and I'm the first to admit that I'm a little anxious about it. Check my feedback and you'll see that I've had 100% positive feedback and have sold many high priced items all over the world. So, just be aware that I'm selling this car "as is" and I am not 100% sure what is wrong with it. I am NOT selling it just to get rid of it because I don't think I could find a better all-around sporty car unless I spend lots more money. Also, I have had many, many cars in my time and I rarely keep one this long! I am a "trading fool" and usually run through one to three vehicles per year. I have had plenty of trucks, SUVs, a Jeep, Motorcycles- including four Harley Davidsons and some very fast European and Japanese Motorcycles. I have traded cars since I began driving at age 14 and WILL CONSIDER TRADES according to eBay rules. I am interested in getting a fast 5-Speed, 4 cylinder vehicle or motorcycle next. I won't be able to afford another Lexus for some time. I wish I could keep the Lexus as well since the word is that this car will only increase in value. This car spoiled my wife and I. People think we're wealthy. They're shocked if they are told hat this car was manufactured back in 1992! These 1992 SC400's sell for anywhere from $3,500 up to $7-$11,000 depending on mileage and options. As I said, I usually run through lots of vehicles and rarely keep any one for more than a year or two. Life is too short to stick with one car! Enjoy yourself. I recently had the complete four-wheel alignment done and replaced the front upper control rods and bushings and new B.F. Goodrich G Force Sports tires, Z-rated 225/55 ZR16s and the car feels like it is riding on rails at high speeds. This machine has a top end speed of 150 mph. I also replaced the alternator and had a leak from the brake master cylinder line replaced and reinforced with a special wire coil spring. The cockpit windows provided valuable camouflage for surveillance and stake outs for the Bounty Hunter but they were a little dark for me at night, so I changed them back to a California-legal tint. It has specialized plates which local Law Enforcement know well and if a Californian purchases this vehicle, I will consider letting them keep the plates with special number "734." I have never been pulled over while driving this car! The performance from the 32-valve, 4.0 liter, aluminum V-8 let me keep pace with some very fast cars out there on the freeways where maneuvering at high speeds is pure excitement. Recently, I fueled-up at a generic gas station and headed home over mountains and the winding downhill race on HWY 41. After I reached HWY1, I was cruising along the Pacific Coast when the car began losing power. I pulled over and had to have the car flat-bedded home. There is a separate fuel controller circuit which regulates fuel pressure which commonly fails on the SC400. I have had a couple mechanics tell me that it is fuel/fuel pump related but one said that it could also be the timing belt but I'd have to pay him $250 for him to "run tests". Since the 1UZ-FE is a non-interference engine, in the unlikely event that the problem was the timing belt, the engine would not have been damaged because the valves would still move freely and not bend like on many other types of engines. So, chances are you will be STEALING THIS CAR! This will be the second time it has been stolen. It's unfortunate for me that it is sitting in my driveway and that I have no time to have the diagnosis and repair done. I realize that I will lose money because the car will have to be towed again by the new owner, since it simply refuses to start, and it's a shame. The mechanic who agreed to fix this car can't do in time and I can't wait around for him. I live in a small town and the Lexus Dealership is quite far from here. Many services are limited or unavailable when you live in a small town! The ingenious, 4-link hinge that moves the doors out and then several inches forward to provide greater room in closer quarter is a design borrowed from the aircraft industry. This car was a completely new design concept from a team who's ideas been carried forward ever since. Some of the graceful ellipsoidal aerodynamic lines make this car look right art home next to 2010 Sports Luxury Coupes! From any angle, it's clear that this automobile is a work of art. It runs fast and smooth and has just about every feature one could dream for in a true Luxury Sports Car. This SC400 was registered as a "Salvaged" vehicle by the Lexus Dealership only because of technicalities in CA DMV codes. It was never junked! It is just as pictured. Don't be mislead. Whenever an insurance company decides that a vehicle will cost more than they are willing to pay and the owner agrees to accept a "new" car or a cash settlement, the car is automatically given a "salvaged" title. The car was NOT wrecked or "junked" as some people would assume. The report is absolutely wrong and it makes this car look bad on paper. Every time a car passes a SMOG test, they issue a new title and it appears in red in the report. This car was restored by replacing the stolen parts but the DMV labeled it the same way they would any car that would cost more on paper to restore than to replace: " When an insurance company as a result of a total loss settlement acquires a vehicle, the insurance company must apply for a Salvage Certificate."
