Vehicle Detail
1957 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 Rare Stick car just like Lee Petty raced back in 1957. Still has the original 277HP Rocket 371 cubic inch engine. The transmission included with the car is from a '54 Olds along with the bellhousing. The only option the car was ordered with was the heater/ventilation system. Otherwise, it is delete across the board. I purchased the car from the original owner's nephew in Northern Minnesota. The car has not run for many years and, although I have never tried to turn the engine over, I would assume it will need to be rebuilt. I have gathered many parts for the car so there is no missing trim. In the trunk I placed the radiator, extra original wheels, some trim, the original "Dogdish" hubcaps and the full size wheel covers too. The driveshaft is also included and I purchased a vintage Mr. Gasket floor 3 speed shifter so I could upgrade the trans to a modern unit. I also purchased a new clutch disc but do not have the pressure plate, but thos are available from various sources like Kanter. I have been collecting '57 Oldsmobiles for several years and this is only the second stick car I've been able to locate. With total production of stick Oldsmobiles in 1957 estimated to be only in the 6,000 range, many of which ended up being sacrificed on the race tracks, leaves this example as a very rare car today. The outer body is very solid with only one small rust hole in the quarter pictured. Bumpers are usable. The rear footwells are gone and there is rust in the driver's side front pan. The original rubber floor mat is in place so there may be other repairs needed once the mat is removed and inspections made. The floor pans are available here on eBay. There is also some rust at the rear of the trunk floor pan but the pan itself is usable. Although the car has not run in many years, it rolls and steers quite well. The car only has 49K miles on it. There are also some dings that will need attention. The rear quarter and back glass are all usable. Both door, wing, and windshield glass is cracked or chipped. The other stick car I restored required much more work than this one does and it now a Banff Blue work of art! I've included everything I can think of at present, if you have further questions, feel free to call 414-587-1470 (CST) Delivery is Available!!!
