Vehicle Detail

Get’m Up Scout… I bought this Scout II a little over a year ago from an acquaintance in New York City who had lost his parking storage under the Brooklyn Bridge. This guy had trailered it out from Oregon where it had spent the majority of its life prior to the 2000s. By a stroke of luck, I called the phone number on a receipt for a tire shop in Oregon and sure enough, spoke with the Oregon owner who was thrilled to hear the truck was still around and confirmed this back history for me. Here is a little about the Scout as it sits now… I bought the truck a little over a year ago in somewhat running condition. It needed a new carburetor and fresh gas and with a brand new carb, a new throttle cable, and proper cable adjustments, it fired right up. After not too long, the electric fuel pump quit and I installed a new one. Since installing the new electric fuel pump, the car does not have power to the key. It has remained that way for about 8 months and I have decided to pass it along and make space in the garage before winter hits. You are buying a non-running project vehicle as it currently stands. The engine is believed to be an AMC 304, not the original to the truck. After installing the new carb, the motor ran with good power, the transmission shifted fine, 4x4 engaged, brakes stopped it great, and it tracked straight going down the road. The wipers, lights, fan, and heat all work. The tires are dry rotted but hold air. Before I purchased it, the owner installed a new steering column (with keys and tumbler) and a new alternator. I have a new entire wiring assembly for the truck that would be beneficial to install to rid it of some mickey mouse wiring. For an original and unrestored Scout, this one is very clean and this was my motivation behind purchasing it. My father had several of these and I was excited to find one that required no undercarriage or major body attention. The body is in great shape with very minimal rust along the rockers and a few small marks of bubbling on the rear quarters. The undercarriage is exceptionally clean with no rot. There is still quite a bit of desert dust from the high Oregon plain where it had spent majority of its life which not only has preserved the truck so well, but stands as a testament to how few miles it has been driven since coming out east. The only significant rust are the outside lines of the front pans and the passenger side rear floor where it meets the base of the factory roll cage. The rockers are solid. The truck is resprayed with what looks to be the factory blue, but has been touched up and redone in several places. It has the factory hitch and wiring for towing. The white wagon wheels are in great shape. There are no significant dents or damage. The windshield has a crack down the middle from top to bottom, but it doesn’t leak, and all the other glass is perfect. If there are other areas I could shine light on, please ask and I will do everything I can to assist. I am not a mechanic so my expertise is limited, but had big dreams for this truck as it’s a nice classic original, but I won’t be privileged enough to dedicate the time to it. This one is certainly one I will wish I had the time and effort to go after... it's very cool. The truck has a clear and clean title in my name and is ready to pass along to a new enthusiast. 54 Additional Photos! Junior’s Cars…Driven by a love of cars and a never-ending stream of family and friends going through them, I dedicated a single eBay account towards helping list friends and family’s vehicles for both auction and fixed-price listings.
