This was the first year for the convertible edition of the Continental GT series and right from the beginning they were sold out immediately with a six-month waiting list. Bentley has become quite adroit at sizing up the wealthy consumers who shop at the top end of the automotive market. Although pedigree and prestige still counts for a lot, today's buyers are very sophisticated expecting real substance behind the exquisitely detailing badging something that The Bentley group has mastered. While drawing upon modern day technology and the engineering expertise of Bentley's German parent company, Volkswagen AG, the marketing of this four-seat convertible allows the buyers to experience the exhilaration with the top down. The Bentley GTC was well thought through the parents collaboration with all their high-line divisions. The car weighs 5,500 pounds, but with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W-12 engine, it 0-60 is recorded at 4.8 seconds...WOW. In addition, the Continental GTC handles itself with a nimbleness of a car that is one-third lighter. There are four suspension settings available allowing the driver to customize their ride to one that is plush or firm as they determine. Their rivals MB SL-65 and the Aston Martin DB9 Volante can't touch the Continental GTC when it comes to sheer all-out luxury. Bentley has created a sumptuous image of what high end buyers expect and in this respect the Continental GTC is certainly in a class of its own. Like all GTC's the power comes from a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W-12 that produces 552 horsepower and 479-feet of torque. The W-12 is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, which delivers power to all four wheels and is capable of a maximum speed of 195 mph. My driving impression of the GTC is that it handles like no other luxury convertible I have ever driven. By choosing the stiffest suspension, the body roll is all but eliminated even around very sharp turns. Despite the 5,500 pound curb weight acceleration it's is never an issue, as the GTC is a well-planted ride that Bentley buyers expect. Our GTC has all the standard options offered by Bentley and as you can see from the pictures she is perfect in appearance even for the most discriminating customer.
