Vehicle Detail

Here is a very nice, clean and straight 1973 Dodge Challenger all dressed up like a Rallye for your consideration. It was originally a 318/904 car. The engine is still a 318, but not the original. It is a 10.0 to 1 compression 1968, with a mild cam, four barrel intake and carb with headers and dual exhaust. It runs much better than the low compression 1973 318s. In fact, it probably has about the same horsepower as a low compression 1973 340, since the headers and intake really help. The original 904 was replaced with a fresh 727 for better durability. All the lights work (even the fender indicators), the front disc/rear drum power brakes stop straight and true and the engine runs great. I wouldn't hesitate to hop in and take a road trip. It starts easily and is a joy to drive. I am only selling to generate some cash to put an addition on my shop so I can get a lift. I am getting too old to be crawling around on the floor. The following information should answer most of your questions: Body: There was rust along the lower rear edge of the quarters, so lower panels were welded in, along with new floor to quarter extensions. The front floors also had rust and were replaced with Sherman parts. The trunk floor was also replaced with an AMD part that has the correct holes for the rubber plugs, so the look is OEM. As you can see in the pics the car is straight, all workmanship is high quality. The bumpers are new from AMD. The stainless trim is straight and was professionally polished to a high shine. The doors hang straight and shut well. The panel gaps are nice, tight and uniform. The car was painted with PPG DBC in Sassy Grass Green/Green Go with PPG 2021 clear. The paint was color sanded and buffed and is level with minimal peel. I added the Rallye hood, stripes and go-wing because I like the look. The tinted and shaded windshield is new and the rest of the glass is nice. I also painted the argent grill black and argent to match a Rallye Challenger's look. The tail panel was originally argent, but I blacked it out like a Rallye, then added the dual exhaust valance and tips. I also added a flip-top gas filler because I really like them. I installed a new Legendary vinyl top and the trim for it was also polished to a very nice luster. Drivetrain/Suspension/Brakes/ Tires: As mentioned earlier in the listing the original 318 was replaced with a fresh high-compression (but still runs fine on pump premium) 1968 318. I changed to a Melling Hi-volume oil pump, put in new Clevite bearings, new Sealed Power rings, TRW timing chain, all the good stuff. The cam is a stock 340 grind and idles well. I also added an Edelbrock 318 SP2P 4bbl intake and headers. The engine runs great and sounds good through the dual exhaust with chrome tips. The 727 transmission was also rebuilt with new heavy duty clutches and seals, etc. The converter is stock. The car shifts firmly with some modifications to the valve body, but still shifts automatically and isn't harsh like a race car. The rear is the original 8 3/4 and is not a Sure-grip. I replaced the brake calipers, hoses and wheel cylinders, rotors, bearings, seals, flex hoses, lines, etc. The car has power steering and goes straight down the road. The power disc brakes work well, stopping straight and true. The u-joints are also new. The ball joints, bushings and tie rods are all good. The shocks are new. Tires are new and the Rallye wheels were media blasted and painted with the correct Mopar argent, not Chevy argent. The center caps are very nice with polished trim rings. Interior: The correct `73 front buckets and console are still there, with new Legendary upholstery on the front seats. The carpet, package tray liner and headliner are also new from Legendary. The door and quarter trim panels are original and nice. All the gauges work and so does the speedometer. The original AM radio was replaced with an aftermarket FM/AM/MP3 radio. The heater works and the heater box was rebuilt with a new core and all new mode door seals and gaskets. This car gives you all the “eyeball” of a real 340 Rallye and will still get good gas mileage and look great doing it. If you will check my feedback, you will see that I am a straight shooter that doesn't need to cheat anybody. A long time Mopar collector, I own over 50 Mopars, and rarely sell anything, but I do want to upgrade my Alabama shop with a lift, so sometimes you sell some things to get what you want. Ask any questions you want and I will try to answer them quickly. There is no buy-it-now option. The auction will run to the end. I think it is unfair to potential bidders to offer an auction and then end it early. If you like the car, just bid, bid often and high, thanks. Now the legal information. The car is sold as-is, where-is and no warranty applies. I am not a dealer, just a Mopar collecter that needs to get off the floor. The car must be picked up before April 8th, 2013. That is when I return to Michigan from my Bama winter home. If this timeframe doesn't work for you, contact me directly and I will see if something can be worked out. The total sale price must be paid and any cashier's checks or bank draft must be cleared through my bank prior to pickup. Of course, cash works anytime. If you are having the car shipped, I will be happy to work with your shipper's schedule and can move the car down the road a half mile to a place with a large lot for a transporter to park and load. Please ignore the Michigan plates, the car is in Ashford, AL 36312. I am a snow bird and spend winters at my Bama home. The car is titled in Michigan, which is a good thing, since Alabama never issued titles until after 1978.
