Vehicle Detail
1970 Subaru 360. Original millage 7833. This vehicle belonged to my stepfather who passed away in 2010. He originally purchased the vehicle while working at the first Subaru dealership on the west coast in 1968. After he retired from the navy in 1968 he began selling cars and was an avid collector of all strange things. He drove this vehicle for 2 years then parked it away in his gargage where it has sat ever sice. When I asked him about the car he told me it was small and great on gas so he had to have one. Over the years the dealership was not successful and closed up shop. Since he was a collector he took with him 1 complete engine for the car as well as 3 other cylinder blocks and misc. parts. The vehicles when shipped arrived at the dealership in white. Then the dealership painted them what ever color the buyer wanted. This car is complete except for the rear seat upper bench back. Here is a little history about the 360. cars101.com/subaru 360 The first U.S. Subaru is the 360. This very small rear wheel drive minicar had a 2-stroke, 25 horsepower 356 cc engine (thus the 360 name), weighed under 1000 pounds, got 66.3 mpg, went 0-50 in over 37 seconds. and cost $1,297. It came in a few models: 2 door sedan, then the "Young S" 2 dr sedan, minivan (that's me in the white 5 door van below), a truck version, and even a mini race car too. There may have been as many as 6000 of these imported through 1969, though they weren't exactly a best seller.
