Vehicle Detail
oldironfarmer store 1940 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall. There were only 718 Built in 1940 with Barn Doors and 1054 built with tailgate/clamshell rear door. So a very limited Production. I am sure they are very few surviving in any condition, let alone one like this. Yet I have a reasonable reserve. I have a 1940 GMC panel in about the same condition I have elected to restore next, thus the sale of this one. I pulled it from a barn where it was stored in 1989. I had to cut a tree down that had grown in front of the door. ( I have pictures). The truck had a 235 installed in the late 80's. It does run good. I have run it for an hour or so on a separate fuel supply. I have driven it up and down the road a few times and on and off my trailer (including just this week, to bring it home to sell). But it will need a new battery and the master cylinder rebuilt at the least to be driven regularly. It does have good solid oil pressure and does not smoke. All I did was ad a rebuilt carb and a set of points and it climbs the hills around my house well. The body is very good. I have taken pictures of the areas prone to rust on these to show detail. The wood in the back is original with zero dry rot. Has original front seats. No rust in the bottoms of any of the four doors, now or ever. All four fenders are excellent with no signs of repairs ever. Items known missing are the grill topper, hood ornament, windshield wiper header cover (same as a pickup), rear seat, one interior window trim and bumper brackets. The windows down the side were also replaced and felts in the 80's. They still go up and down. Sadly the barn was missing boards on one side and neighbor kids broke glass on one side and slashed a can of paint that was there down the side. It is enamel and does peal off. Tires all hold air. Rear glass and Passenger side glass is all good. All regulators are there. Bumpers were re-chromed and not reinstalled because the part of the brackets were misplaced. It has what appears to probably be an aftermarket stainless steel grill, made a long time ago because previous owner had it for 20 years. Please ask questions before bidding. I can hold for 30 days while transportation arrangements are made. I can deliver to Port of Oakland, CA for $235 and Los Angeles area Ports for $350. On Mar-02-13 at 15:52:16 PST, seller added the following information: I am getting a significant number of questions about this truck. Please continue asking, I am happy to answer. If you live close enough to view in person I will make myself available all week, just ask. I reserve the right to sell at anytime as I have had some good offers. But the plan is to let it ride and sell to highest bidder. I do have title. It is the old "pink" style title. It does not match the vin plate. But it has been inspected by California Highway patrol and issued an "assigned vin" which is affixed to the door pillar by the CHP and as far as legality is now the legal vin, which matches the title. In CA trucks from the 1940's and 50's were registered to the engine number. Most have had the engines replaced and the ones done properly has this assigned vin done. I have many more photos showing every detail of the truck and how solid it is. Please ask if you want something specific. I am trying to get them downloaded to one link (but ebay does not allow me to post a "clickable link" to the auction). If you want to see more, just ask. I also have video of it running and driving. On Mar-02-13 at 15:57:37 PST, seller added the following information: The truck has a gas tank under the rear installed well, but it is not the original. Also the two lights attached to the rear have holes cut for the wires behind them, trying to disclose everything I can think of. Still better than having to repair rust. Top is solid as are all drip rails (even in the rear corner where they are known to rust, solid here). On Mar-05-13 at 12:23:41 PST, seller added the following information: Update- I flushed the fuel tank (It was already drained and seamed clean) and lines. I added an older battery I had and I rebuilt the master cylinder. It is now driving. It starts using the key and foot pedal, manual choke works. Fuel pump is weak and I will look into replacing that too. Brakes are good enough for transport and to drive down the street. I did this as I have had numerous questions about shipping it not running. None of this work was done so that you could get in and drive it home, but you should be able to load it, unload it and drive it around your block. Now that I have run it longer the water pump is leaking. I have had several offers each day to End the auction for cash and what is my "buy it now". Now that it has hit the reserve it will go to the end. High bidder at the end owns it, simple and fair to everyone that way. Good luck.On Mar-07-13 at 19:06:46 PST, seller added the following information: I did get a new fuel pump in it today. It is pulling clean fuel from its tank at this point. Drove it down the street. No issues driving it up on a trailer now.
