Small Block Original Automatic, 2-Speed 'Powerglide' Transmission Original Rear End It doesn't get much better than this for a numbers matching, '57 Bel Air resto project! I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END MY LISTINGS EARLY!*Please note that owner has placed a very fair 'Buy It Now' on this Classic automobile which is far less than invested in the car to date.* Call me Now at: 570-250-1622 - Mark or: follyhilclassics@gmail.com or: eBay Email. PLEASE read my Listing from top to bottom! **Please note that we have had to relist this vehicle. We shipped the Bel Air to the winner of our recent auction with the arrangement that he would, in good faith, pay for the shipping upon arrival and pay the balance in full. Instead, he didn't pay the trucker in full and tried a 'bait and switch' on us, saying he would NOT pay his winning bid price, but that he would offer $2000.00 for the car! We emphatically said 'no', and brought her back home, having suffered a pretty good loss on everything. Then, winning buyer left me terrible Feedback. I've had 100% Feedback for over 8 years.....oh well. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air was a wonderful, magical car which will always be remembered, particularly by the 'baby boomers' like myself at 62. This is the real deal. The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is perhaps the most recognizable automotive icon in history. It's world famous and widely imitated rear fins and instantly recognizable name have a storied place in automotive lore. The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air became the dream-car of American youth. Chevrolet produced 702,220 Bel Airs in 1957. Inside of this very collectible and investment grade Chevrolet you’ll find the full power-train as it came from the factory....the 283 cu. in. 'Vee-Eight' engine with cast iron block, heads, and exhaust manifolds. *The 283 was a first for Chevrolet. Right now, the engine is fitted with a vintage Rochester two-barrel and a non-original intake manifold (as per stampings, the car was born with a four-barrel and different intake). Has the factory automatic 2-speed transmission ('Powerglide'). Frame has been sandblasted, primed, and painted and in good condition. Most of the car has original GM steel on it, although front right fender and possibly trunk lid may need replacement. Bottom of the rear quarters have been replaced. All of the factory bright work appears to be present and there has been a brand new, one-piece floor pan installed. Primed trunk floor is good. All-American engineering superiority of the era and this automobile is an immortal design icon for Chevrolet. Give Mark a call now at: 570-250-1622! This old 'collector car' is located in north-central PA. and will not last long based on a fair 'Reserve' and Buy It Now price. '57 Bel Air's like this in restorable condition with a number's matching drive-train, are becoming more and more difficult to find every day. You can bet once you own a piece of American automotive history like this 1957 Chevrolet 2-DOOR Sport Coupe, you will have one of the more uncommon and desirable collectible cars on the planet! An investment into your future better than stocks or bonds that you can enjoy! History of this Car: The owner (with a clear title), is an elderly gentleman and was a mechanic his entire life. He owned his own repair garage, and is now retired. He unfortunately is not able to complete this car due to serious health issues. He has always stored this Bel Air inside of his heated repair garage. The car was purchased by the current owner a few years ago with most of the restoration work completed by previous owner as seen here in this listing. Current owner shared with me that the previous owner rebuilt the original 283. Larry also stipulated that he routinely turned the engine over with the crank, but because of his health, he had neglected this of late and it appears that the motor has seized. Owner did put a mix of new motor oil and diesel fuel into each of the cylinders via the spark plug holes just recently. The engine was not sitting outside but has been stored in a heated repair garage. Based on what I can see, the engine should not have been seized-up for very long. Needs to be unlocked with Engine Release, Marvel Mystery Oil, or another approach your used to. I didn't mess around trying to free the engine up. The 'ole 283 is much too precious. 'Reserve' is set much lower than what owner has invested in this classic Chevy so far!! A personal visit by a potential buyer will NOT leave them disappointed. Please come and inspect! This Chevy has had the following, but not limited to, restoration work and/or replacement parts which come with the sale: entire original frame sand-blasted, inspected, primed, and painted black.new brakes lines.new fuel lines.has it's original rear seat (needs replacement front seat).new power steering set-up. Needs a PS pump to complete.power brake set-up. Needs brake calipers.6 all original side windows with chrome.new front windshield (not installed). New rubber for this is included. original AM radio which was an Option.new one piece full floor pan with all new welded braces.new headlamp buckets.box of parts for body comes with sale.bottom of rear quarters neplaced.lower panels new.all heat/air duct-work is there and restored.new gas tank and straps. new side rockers, top and bottom.new rear tailpan.new, correct roof liner in box. original 2-speed, Powerglide automatic transmission.10-bolt rear. 1957 Bel Airs' had a 115-inch wheelbase and measured 197.5 inches long, 73 inches wide and 59 inches tall. The original 283 small block engine is original to this automobile. interior door panels are not available. Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Stainless steel VIN tag on driver’s side door pillar is spot welded from the factory, but the cowl tag has screws affixing it to firewall instead of having the factory spot welds. The cowl tag data does appear to be ‘matching’ to the car itself however. Engine pad stamping was thankfully not decked off during the rebuild of the motor. This is the 283 it was born with. See below ‘critical #’s. The car appears to be ‘matching numbers’ in this respect. I did not get the trans. stampings nor the rear axle/pumpkin, etc., but they appear to be and I assume all are original to the car. I did not also get block casting #’s, nor distributor, generator, bell housing, & other #’s. Take a look at the images and you can get an idea what is new such as engine mounts, the new rotors in the trunk, etc. All new body mounts. Please also note some of the surface rust on inside of doors, the rust on the bottom drip edge of the trunk lid, etc. One picture is of the odometer showing 20,000 plus miles. This is probably 120,000 plus miles, but we are unsure. Here are the critical numbers:Engine Pad Stamp (283 cu. in.) - T1204FC T – Tonawanda 12 04 – December 4, 1956 FC – model # of engine = 15-21-240; 0 283 V8; w/ 4BC, Power-glide. **Important to note here is that the original owner may have changed the intake to accommodate the 2 bbl. for better fuel economy? *What’s important is that the engine assembly date is within a week of the build date I’ve calculated.* Engine data as follows: Turbo Fire 283 V8: 8.5 (compression ratio) 3-7/8" – (bore) 3" (stroke) 185 hp @ 4600 RPM Net hp - 150 @ 4200 RPM. Car came from factory with either Powerglide or Turboglide. As you know, all 1957 283’s were built in either Canada, Tonawanda, or Flint.
