1981 Fiat 124 Spider. Ready to Drive & Enjoy!!! This car has been in the same family since it was first bought new in 1981. It has been garaged all of its life. The car had 64,850 miles on it when it was acquired by the present owners. It presently has 70,267. The car has what I would cal an older restoration and has always been run around the neighborhood on a regular basis so that the battery was kept charged and so the engine, transmission and rear axle kept a layer of oil on their interior parts. Exterior: The black paint with pin striping was professionally done soon after the car changed hands to the current relative in 1998. The paint looks terrific for being almost 14 years old. There are a few areas near the wheel wells where there are bubbles under the paint. (See pictures) All of the lights work, none of the plastic lenses are damaged. The horn, signal lights, brake lights and windshield wipers all work. The tires were replaced when the present owner acquired the car in 1998 and are in excellent condition. The rims are original and were restored. The convertible top was replaced at the same time that the paint was done. It is in like new condition. The bumpers are beginning to show a little oxidizing. There is one insignia missing from the trunk. All rubber seals are in place, some have small cracks from age. Interior The covered dashboard is fine. The seats, wood dashboard, carpets and door panels are all in good condition. The steering wheel does not have any cracks. The sun visors are in good condition but as is typical of convertibles, the foam inside has dried up. The trunk is in excellent condition. All gauges work except the tachometer. All of the lights work & the radio is a recent Pioneer, am/fm/cd. Mechanical: The engine runs fine. It does not burn any oil or leak oil. Regular scheduled oil and filter changes. Clutch works fine as does the transmission. Shifting through all gears is effortless with no unusual noises. Emergency brake works fine. Brakes have 6k miles on new pads. Steering is fine as is suspension. New exhaust system (including catalytic converter) installed when car was purchased in 1998. The Cold Start Valve should be replaced before the cold weather arrives. The car starts easily in warm weather. In general, this great car is ready to drive and enjoy with either the top up or down. Rarely and carefully driven and never out in bad weather. This car has not seen much use, and has always been garage kept and pampered. This car is being sold in as is condition with a clear title. Sold in “as is” condition with no warranties expressed or implied. By bidding you accept those terms. I have just been informed by the owner (today, 05/15/2012) that last year, the original distributor cap, rotor, coil, spark plugs, ignition wires & electronic ignition module were replaced with new parts.
